Mannyrock, my Marlin with a scope is a 35 Remmie early Texan version. It's got a small 1-1/2 to 5 on it. It's deadly, 200 grain Corelocts or RCBS 200 grain Cast. But I've got new, storebought bifocals for over 500 bucks and need to use my peepsight leverguns a little while longer-Marlins and Winnies. I need to get my money's worth out of my brand-new specs! My long octagon barrel Winnie 94 though will never get a scope. The other Marlins--well, Maybe some day on the other 35. That 45-70 though--.... You're right actually--a smallish sized low-powered scope on a Marlin can be a good thing. Whenever I do hunt with a scope (and sometimes I do even though I am a geezer--but don't tell anybody) I usually set it on 2 or 3 power and leave it there. That's plenty in the woods and swamps where I hunt.
