my first cannon now has a brother
« on: February 16, 2010, 02:50:25 PM »
around christmas I finished my first cannon

DOUBLE D asked what i had in mind for the other piece of brass

well here is the answer

carriage and wheels are mahogany,
wheels i kinda cheeted, they are machined from a plank rather than proper spokes
wheels are 4 inches tall

left is samcc as per plans on this site, right is samcc barrel made a little longer, and muzzle flare flattened
is exactly 12 inches from muzzle to end of ball
and is bored 10 inches deep
and most obviously,  i now have a field carriage to complement my garrison carriage.

Amazing mrrattle!  You guys with metal lathes astound me.  When you say you machined the wheels from a plank do you mean a milling machine?  I would very much like to see that done.  I don't think that's cheating at all.  That is using your talents to the fullest.

yes, i used a milling machine to cut the spokes
have to use a rotary table (which i also made from an old window motor)

I like your style, Mrrattle! :)
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.
