Yes,

Well-- the posting was for your entertainment pleasure. I'll post my impressions (not necessary correct, but honest), and I believe you'll find a few things to add.

Is this in reference to his hunt near China for Marco Polo Ram?

No, just a reference to a discussion that Randy and I had a while back. Jim is a friend of mine....as are jacketed bullets!

From what I know about Jim Shockey (and I've never met him) he hunts like a demon, is a very good shot and hunter, and works very hard at it.

The many interviews that quote the "300 gr. Nosler / 100 gr. Pyrodex on everything" aren't strictly true. He hunted with 300 gr. Knight lead sabots for some time, then switched to 300 gr. Barnes Expanders, now using 300 gr. noslers for the most part. There have been exceptions to this as well, but he like 300 gr. bullets, and likes to get close.

As to jacketed bullets, I don't see what advantages there are to pure lead bullets. The disadvantages due to smokeless, velocity, rifling damage are already taken care of by the sabots.

Randy....Randy....Randy....why do you continue to head down this dangerous road.

You are quite likely right about Shockey using different bullets and in fact, I've never heard him say that he has killed "everything" with a Nosler. The only statement that I recall is that he killed all of the critters in his North American slam with the Nosler/Pyro combination. Shockey has killed countless other animals and some of these may have, like you say, died at the hand of a Barnes or Knight bullet. What does it really matter anyhow. Why do you have this perversion with calling Shockey down in public? I don't recall him making any public statements about you or your vocation.

As for the jacketed bullets, once you have enough kills to your credit to come to the table and talk about bullet performance, then we can talk. For now, velocity is the biggest limiting factor of lead bullets in sabots. They can't handle it.  For sub 2,000fps shooters they likely work but after that accuracy is a disaster. (Remember, you brought this up)

I liked it better when we were getting along but I guess that doesn't do much to get a new messageboard forum up and rolling does it? Okay, you  knew I'd take the bait and I did but there must be something else we can discuss besides these tired old subjects. But, I guess if you keep putting them on the hook, I'll keep biting. It's just my nature.

Sheephunter,

I have no idea where "perversion" entered in-- what deregatory comments are you looking for?

From what I know about Jim Shockey (and I've never met him) he hunts like a demon, is a very good shot and hunter, and works very hard at it.

Do you really think your friend Jim would find that so unbearable?

You can bite or snap as you choose-- but pure lead sabots have already been pushed to 2350 fps, resulting in 1 MOA groups, many hundreds of times. Cecil had been doing it for years, Toby Bridges is in the middle of it. Personal preference is fine, but where is the problem?

You seemed to encourage this?

Come on Randy those are two of my favourite subjects!

Don't see any "danger" here.

I think my "friend" Jim Shockey might find that statement unbearable. Not true........hmm......does that mean he is a liar? Oh, I guess with him being a writer, that goes without saying.

Well,

Capt. Greybeard wanted the forum to keep a bit lively, I'd imagine he is pleased. As for Jim Shockey, if there are any misstatements made, please correct me.

Discussion of Jim is certainly appropriate in an inline forum, as he is one of the most visible, very public, inline muzzleloading hunters of today.

Those who are interested in finding out about Jim Shockey and his adventures (and upcoming books) can find it here:
