If want to believe that go ahead.  A Handi shoots best when it's filthy.  Since we no longer use corrosive primers or powder cleaning is a waste of time.

Your Handi may shoot best when "filthy"..but mine don't...what to know why? Cause mine are lapped very smooth..and I guarantee you they shoot exceptionally well.

If you don't want to believe that pitting and barrel corrosion can happen under copper,lead,Black/Blue Moly or Lubalox in barrel..I feel sorry for you..because it happens every day to millions of rifle bores..

Did it ever occur to you..and some others..the reason your Handi shoots best when"filthy" is because of all of the irregularities and crevices being filled in with (God knows what in yours at least) lead/carbon/copper/bullet coatings...?

Probably not..

It's ok I've been shooting sub-MOA groups from uncleaned bores (all brands) for many many years.  These myths and old wifes tales have been spread around until people believe them.  They are carry overs from the corrosive primer and black powder era.  Everything that goes down a barrel wears it out.  Many rifles have a short barrel life anyway.  You have to run 5-6 rounds down a clean barrel to get it to group.  Waste of ammo, waste of time, shortened barrel life.  Just shoot them and clean once a year if you must.

I out shoot nearly all my fellow shooters most of which clean after every session.  I keep telling them a clean rifle won't group but they won't listen.

i did a 243 handi for a friend just a few weeks ago it was shooting about 6 inch groups at 100 yards now after lapping only its just over a inch with factory ammo.and he already had about 100rds down range before he gave it to me.

well i dont know about all that stuff i just know that for my buddies rifle and all the ones i've done on my own rifles it sure does work and that good enough for me

proof is in the puddin
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

Actually I need but 1 sometimes 2 shots to be able to group..but most often since I dry my bore I get sob-moa groups to begin with.

As to cleaning and barrel break in being a wives tale..not really..but something I have proven to myself for over 50 years of shooting rifles

Yes..everything that goes down the barrel wears them out eventually..but in Handi's..as rough as many of them are..smoothing them by my means doesn't degrade barrel life nor accuracy near as much as having corrosion and pits in them.Cleaning them as I do doesn't harm the bore either..and having a smooth bore I don't have to clean them near as much as having a rough bore before my accuracy degrades. My velocity is better..and my accuracy is better..factory or hand loads.
