Back to the original question.

Why do you think our government would want to dis arm us? Do you really think it could happen? I don't think it could happen in my life time I am 43 years old. They may out law some AR weapons in the near future. Ok so what do you think? Dale

In a word Control.

Why did the Nazis ban private ownership of guns in Germany?
Why are the Governments of England, Australia and Canada trying to ban the private ownership of guns?
It's all about the elite having total control over the general populace.  As long as the general populace has a means of fighting back the elitist cannot have total control.

Brett, +1. That is what the 2nd ammendment is all about, the citizens being able to defend themselves from our own government. Not self defense, not foriegn invasion but standing up to our own government.

Actualy Dale, at this point in time, I don't think the govt. wants to disarm us. What with what 'O's doing as far as stimulis and bailouts, serious inflation will soon be heading our way. I honestly believe they want us to keep our guns, so that the ''thinning of the herd'' can take place. Then, when the population is much lower, they can try and implement gun control. gypsyman

The problem with this theory is that the herd thinning would and should start with those who occupy the government.

The neo-socialists in government don't trust you to manage your retirment, your health care, your voting franchise, your diet, your life, and they don't trust you with a gun.  You might shoot your eye out or something.

They probably would trust their fellow ruling class elites with guns though, so if you happen to run with that crowd, chances are good that you might get to keep a few -kind of like those elite politicos in the former Soviet Union, who had "daschas" in the countryside and engaged in sport hunting.  Or Fidel Castro, as another example.

But the so-called "common people"?  Fugitaboutit.

This is why you must remain ever diligent to preserve liberty, and chose to preserve it when faced with the choice of a politician promising to nanny you from the cradle to the grave or another who won't guarantee your happiness, only the opportunity to pursue it.

There most certainly ARE progressive politicians in our government RIGHT NOW who do not trust you with your second ammendment rights.  They have names like Pelosi, Reed, Mc Cain, Schumer, and on and on.  They are all similar in their universal belief that you as an individual are incapable of making it in life without government aid, and even more similar in their callus disdain for the constitution, and thus they are fairly easy to identify -assuming you're really interested in looking for them.
