old vs new barrel- Contender
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:50:11 AM »
I was told that if my contender frame had a serial number above 195,000 a new G2 barrel would work without any modification. Is this true?

Yes it will fit. There really is not a G2 barrel per se. All are contender barrels. Only frames are identified as G2 as far as I know. Barrels with one piece locking bolts may not lock up right but can be fitted with current 2 piece bolts.

And, you don't have to leave out the ones before 195,000 either.  They have the pivot point for the action lever/trigger guard a little more forward and may be a little harder to work but they still will work just fine.

The only barrels made expressly for the G2 frame are the muzzloading barrels.  Do not even try to put them on older frames.  I accidently did and had to send the frame back to T/C for repair, which they did without charge.  They are really great that way!
