.223 Barell Insert-.22 Long Rifle or Mag.
« on: February 20, 2010, 06:31:46 AM »
I am considering an insert for my TC Encore ,223 barrel for either .22 Long Rifle or .22 Magnum.
Has anyone used either and how was the accuracy?

Good point!
I hadn't thought about the cost difference.

I bought up a bunch of them many years ago that were made from barrel cut offs. Then I bought more about a dozen years ago that were made from brass.   I bought both the TC style and the transfer plunger (TP) style, not only in centerfire to rimfire but also centerfire to centerfire chamberings.   What I found was that how good they shot was entirely a per individual firearm thing.   IOW, a very few firearms shot very well with them, some just passable, but most did not.   The adapters made from steel did better than those from brass on average FWIW.

I also have adapters to shoot 22 caliber pellets in 22 Hornet and 22-250 centerfire firearms propelled by just a primer.   Like the above fun to play with for a while and good enough for backyard pests, but not really a serious conversion.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Do you reload? If so 9 to 10 grains of IMR4759 and a 40 to 45 grain bullet makes a nice light load not as quiet as a 22 LR but does the job.
