Hornady 6.8 spc ammo
« on: April 26, 2010, 01:16:59 PM »
Just got a good deal on some 110gr. v-max and HP Match ammo.Would either be suitable for whitetails using my contender carbine? If so, which would be better?

I used the 110 grain V-Max last year with outstanding sucess on my whitetail buck.  I could not be happier with the 6.8 and the V-Max.

At 155yds lazerd,a doe fell to a VMax.It didnt hit a rib goin in so i dont know if it would of made a dif.The lungs were tore up some :o.It took about a doz shakey steps and colapesd. It was pretty windy so i didnt go for a neak shot like i usualy do,maby 25 mph. They seemto buck the wind pretty good,as i have used them shooting chucks all last summer.pan.

It is always interesting to read up on others experiences with this new cartridge.

I've just set up a semi-auto Robinson Arms XCR-L in 6.8spc with a 1-11" barrel twist rate I've only loaded 110gr Sierra Prohunters @ 2650fps from it's 18.6" barrel so far but have some of the new Barnes 95gr TTSX that are designed to expand below 1700fps which pushes the hunting distance of the 6.8 cartridge out beyond 300 yards.

If these loads work out I will definitely be ordering a stainless steel 1-11" twist 21" factory tapered barrel to add to my Contender carbine barrels.
