Trade my Bonnie??

Went to the shop to pick up my better half's truck yesterday. I got to talking with the owner's son about bikes and told him about my '74 Bonnie. He tells me he's got a '77 and is mine for sale?? I told him it's my only bike and I can't be without a bike come summer time. He offered to trade me his 2006 Sportster straight up for my Bonnie. I told him I'll think about it and let him know. What do you guys think??

Holy Cow. I remember when you couldn't GIVE a Britbike away...  Wow. Of course if you have had that '74 for as long as I'm guessing you might have, you probably have a LOT of history together. Which would affect things. From a purely financial standpoint it sounds like a pretty fair deal, however.

Personally, I wish I would have kept all of the 13 or so bikes I've owned over the years. But man, a '06 sporty even up...

Good problem to have I guess. Not much help here, sorry.

ive had both of those type bikes, i liked the sporty a whole lot better than the bonnie.in fact i always thought the modern sportster is prob the most durable bike hd ever made,the sporty will require much less attention to keep running than the trumpet.

I love my XL-1200N but I'd rather have a late 1960s 650 Triumph.  I'd trade the 74 Bonnie for a 2006 XL-883 though.

How can you trade something that changes it's own oil via leaks,dribbles gas out of the carburretors,and has the lights go out on you suddenly when out for a midnight ride? That's real character. How can you trade that? Makes riding a real adventure,which it should be. LOt easier to own a Brit bike now because of cell phones. In the good old days when she quit you would have to push the bike or walk for miles to get help. Keep the piece of British history, ride it when you can,push it when you must. :)

Yep ,if the sporty wasn't wrecked and in a box the deal would be done. If a 1200 a few dings would be OK

I've owned 2 post-2005 Sportys.  They run like a top and are a dream compared to the older versions.

Lots of models of 06 sporty's 883 to 1200 custom. If he offered the trade I would think he was getting the better end of the deal- jmtcw.

 I traded my Bonnie cafe racer away for a dynaglide in 2000. It lasted 3 years, and I got rid of that dyna-saur

Got a 2008 Sporty, still wish I had my Bonnie

Not IMO......oil in frame Triumphs don't bring the big bucks like the pre-1971 models do.  If you're looking for a dependable ride that Sportster will bring you home.  Check out what both bikes are bringing on eBay.

Have a dream of someday buying a 1965 T120R with the big tank with book rack on it. Even know what colors I want, Pacific Blue and Alaskan White.

Yep, I've been in love with Bonnies ever since high school when I first saw them and couldn't afford one. They were around $1200-$1400 new, at the time.
