My newest $120 muzzleloader, Traditions Lightning Lightweight
« on: February 18, 2010, 03:55:16 AM »
I couldn't pass it up.  Stopped at local gun shop yesterday and strolled around until I found a big sign that said "Blackpowder Clearance".  The shop has had some of these guns for a year or two.  This one is a Traditions Lightning Lightweight in .50 cal. with a 22" nickel, fluted barrel.  For $120 bucks I figured I could not go wrong.  I was surprised to see that traditions rated this thing up to magnum loads, or 150 grains.  I do love the weight at 6.3 pounds exactly.

Is anyone else out there shooting one of these?  Just curious if anyone has found a favorite load for it yet.

Your right, you can't go wrong with one of those. I paid 99.00 for a Puruit XLT and it shoots and handles every bit as good as a TC at a lot less money. I only bought it for the muzzeloader season which only last for maybe 10 days. Good Choise ABD.

had the evolution and it shot great. the stock did give me problems during the summer heat so i free floated the barrel. Up at the tip of the stock there is  A LOT of pressure pushing on the barrel, I took a  file and reshaped it and it shot perfect after that.

I got a chance to shoot it today.  100 gr pyrodex pellets, 250 gr hornady sst, 777 primer, about 40 yards offhand gave me a 5 shot group of roughly 4 inches(open sights, btw).  I wasn't going for extreme accuracy, just wanted to shoot it.  I am anxious for warmer weather, and the chance to clear the 16" of snow off of my shooting bench.  Temps today in Ohio around 40 deg.  are helping with the snow removal, just not fast enough for my liking.
