John Linebaugh does it to me again!
« on: April 28, 2012, 03:55:35 PM »
Gave my 357 Ruger BH to John Linebaugh to go over for me and got it back Wen. from John.  While I'm checking it out and in heaven working the action, :-* John drops a 500 Linebaugh cartridge in my hand and tells me "I can change that 357 into one of these for ya." 8)   Oh man, what temptation!  That cartridge make much more sense to me than the 500 S&W which is too long to fit in a normal Ruger.  Time to start stickin $ in the piggy bank again. ;D   May keep the 357 as she sets and give him a 10 1/2" 44 mag that I never use due to it being so long, to rework.  Now to make up my mind between the 475 Linebaugh or the 500.  475 could also use 480 Ruger as a sort of "480 Special".  Just have to make up my mind before John says he's gonna retire, he's mentioned it a time or 2.  By the way, if anyone is interested in a sixgun seminar put on by John Linebaugh in Cody, Wyo., PM me and I'll give you his contact info. Dates are June 14-15-16.   Or if you want a craftsman to sweeten your Ruger! ;)   DP

John is planning to retire soon. Nows the time to get one if youve been on the fence. I would guess that after hes retired and no more are being made the resale of them will do nothing but go up and allready his guns hold better resale prices then about any other makers. As to what caliber i cant help you. Ive got two of each. Personaly i think the 475 is probably the best hunting caliber ever designed for a handgun. It does everything well and will take any game animal on the planet. Other advantages are brass is much cheaper, Inexpensive molds can be found and you can load it with carbide dies. The 500s advantages are that its just bigger! Which makes it cool. It operates at lower pressures and unless you are like me and tend to ignore that lower pressure thing it recoils slower and less then the 475. Loaded up to its real potential and its definately a step above the 475 in power and in my experience does smack animals harder. Hard to go wrong with either choise.

Not sure if he's planning or just thinking about it.  Nothing would make me happier than going to his seminar in June, but I don't think the wife and kids would like me cutting the family vacation short by a week so I could go. ::)   He's up here about every week at my favorite "candy store" and meets up with several other Gun Guys.  Always a couple of SAAWEET firearms brought to be passed around and drooled over.  Saw and old S&W single shot target 22 last week I never knew of, barrel swung sideways to load.  The fitting on it was wonderful.  Also an old Colt 1911 that was just magnificent, polish was mirror smooth and she looked like never fired, in the original box that was also in great condition.  Fella needs to wear boots around these guys, nuff BS spread around to fertilize half of Montana. ;D   Lotta fun to hang out with them.  DP
