Best Magazines for 1911 .22 Conversion
« on: February 18, 2010, 02:30:31 PM »
I've got the Ciener slide on my 1911 Govt and I love it ... except the magazines. The first round I load just sort of floats in there, the 2nd is loose, and only when the 3rd is put in does the spring really feel engaged. Of course Ciener doesn't have a contact form or email on their website, and I'm way out of their normal business hours for a phone call, so I thought I'd post it here.

Which mags do you prefer? I saw EAA made some out of zytel, but I've not found any other plastic options. I'm guessing most will be steel or aluminum.

Didn't know anyone made mags for the Ceiner conversion! That's good to know, the Ceiners are a bit pricey in my opinion. I have the 10 rd mag that came with the unit, and 4 of the 15rd ones. I ordered the 15rd mags when I ordered the conversion so that I would have enough mags for the Steel Challenge.  The mags I have work fine. Have you cleaned and dry lubed your magazines? Checked the followers and tubes for burrs? Sorry I can't provide any insight into the other mags. If the price is right I might order a few of the mags from EAA just to check them out. Good luck!

I'd suggest you look for, or order Colt 1911/22 mags. They are available and work flawlessly, although they are usually NOT cheap.

Marvel Precision http://www.marvelprecision.com/ makes good magazines for their conversion which should work with the Ceiner conversion.   Marvel offers both Polymer and Metal magazines.   The Metal magazines are like the original Colt magazine except that the follower has been modified so that it won't hold the slide back after the last shot.   The Poly magazines won't hold the slide back either.   They do this to prevent damage to the aluminum slides used in most 22 conversions.

By the way, the Marvel Precision Unit 1 conversions are much more acurate than the Ceiner conversion.   they will hold under an inch at 50 yards.   Each unit is tested for that level of accuracy and a test target is provided with the conversion.

In addition to the Marvel Conversion, I also have an original Colt conversion.  It uses a steel slide and feels more like a 45.   Not particularly accurate, especially compared to the Marvel.
