Exelent Revolvers
« on: February 26, 2010, 11:42:58 AM »
I'v been readind all threads on here, DA Revolver Board, S&W Board, ect.

I have found someone will or has complains about ever brand (S&W, Ruger, Colt and so on, some justified and probably some are not. I have also been talking to several gun shops and gun smiths here in Charleston SC, they all say that Taurus guns are good guns, but their QC is still a little lacking. This noes not qualify for Totally slamming the Taurus guns every chance you get, do that to the sacred S&W and every one is ready to fight.

Based on the 3 recent revolvers that I have purchased the lacking of QC has only been a cleanning issue, they all came to me with grit in the action, and shell ejector. After cleanning they all shoot real good, No complaints.

I am in no way saying their are the so called (QUALITY OF THE SACRED S&W or the Ruger) But they are aparently still really good guns.

I have Rugers and S&W hand guns and love them, but these little Taurus deffinatly have a place, at least for me. Here our hunting season (deer)runs from August 15th til Jan 1st. Then start scouting for next year and shooting squirls from Jan 1st til March, then Turkeys til May 1st up until now I am in the woods AT LEAST 4 DAYS A WEEK EVERY WEEK. Turkey season is really busy Slide through the woods in the evenings to see where they roost Saturday and Sunday mornings spent turkey hunting, Red Breast Fishing is at peak April-May & June so in the middle of the day (week-ends) I'm in the boat fishing, then out to hunt. June through August A little early morning fishing and time for the family camping trips.

So I figure I have a revolver or semi auto straped to me in rough terain about 1500+ hours a year, getting scraped or knocked about, dropped in the mud (almost lost one a couple of times) My guns take some abuse- Now this is where my Taurus revolvers come in, I just got my first one about 6-8 weeks ago until then I have been carrying one of my Rugers or Brownings or S&W. I DO NOT WANT TO CONSTANTLY BE CAREFUL OR WATCHING OUT AS NOT TO SCRATCH OR TEAR UP?LOOSE?ABUSE these guns any longer. For half to 2/3rds the cost of those I fount Taurus, mine are SS, not worried about abuse, that doesnt mean I will tear them up on purpose but I can enjoy what I'm doing and not worry.

Now if I were only in the woods 10 - 20 days a year, who cares. It would take years for those guns to show any signs of abuse.

My long winded point is they are accurate, more reliable that peoplwe give them credit for and deffinatly have a place. And for the price I can have more of them to cover more situations/conditions to fit my needs.
I would invite any one to carry their S&W's arround with me for a while and listen to them complain about whats happening to their gun, after all other that a fine few- They are just tools that I believe is as necessary as air to breath...........
Thanks
Gene

;D Gene, at present I do not own a Taurus, and probably never will...the few pistols I own are used daily, but this climate is kinder to weapons than the humid south...my only experience with Taurus is though my shooting pal...he has a .44 special which he uses constantly...and also a .22 mag.  both of these are in his pickup I would say 75 percent of the time...he loves them..they shoot well for the purposes we put pistols to...BUT he did purchase his son a Taurus .22 mag. exactly like his...that pistol would never function properly..no matter what they or the gunsmiths tried.  the ammo would slip back and tie up the action...Finally, the pistol was traded for something else...so it seems when they work they are excellent...but a bad one slips though now and then...but that seems to occur with all firearms...

I just got rid of a Raging Bull 44 mag.
Except for the cylinder rod which came loose (lock tight fixed that)

I got rid of it for two reasons. The 1350fps limit with 240gr bullets

and....

I cant hit ship with a handgun

I thought it was a well made hand cannon.

I've had some good Taurus guns and some REALLY REALLY LOUSY ones. Back when I was getting good ones I was touting how good they were then all of a sudden I ran into a string of HORRIBLE ones and found they have no customer service to speak of.

When you get a good one it's worth hanging onto as they can be quite good but when you get a bad one they are of no helping in getting it fixed. That's the real problem with Taurus guns you just never know if the next one will be a good one or a horrible one.

I'd sure say hold onto them if you get a good one but don't assume that just because you find one good one the next will be the same. Now with Raging Bulls they do seem to put more quality into them and a bad one of those is rare. It proves they can do it if/when they want to.

When someone gets a bad product you can bet they'll be vocal about it. That's not slamming. It seems to be the same with cars and guns,   I just buy what I like and as long as I'm happy with it, I could care less what others think about it. I don't abuse or lose my guns, so that's not an issue. I buy mine to use, and a little honest wear is not a problem for me. I have one Taurus revolver, it has worked fine for me.  Other owners have not been so fortunate. I would think it prudent to consider the large number of complaints we hear from Taurus owners when considering purchasing that new revolver. That's just smart shopping-----JMO.
