Taurus RB scope base.
« on: February 08, 2010, 05:40:26 AM »
How long does it take to get a staineless scope base for my 6 1/2 " 454 RB from Taurus.  Or would i be better off buying from an outside source or different brand?

Thanks

You "might" live long enough for Taurus to ship you one but if you're past you're mid 20s I'd not want to take any bets on it. The biggest problem with ordering from another source is that other than the one made or at least that used to be made by B-Square they have to get them from Taurus also.

I can offer you a "maybe solution" if you want to try it.

I have three Taurus scope bases one the old original B-Square they had to modify as I recall cuz it didn't work as issued to me. I have none of the hardware to go with it and it is for an 8-3/8" and is too long for your barrel.

I also have to made by Taurus which are basically the same length and appear "almost" but not quite identical.

One is marked for the RB with 8-3/8" barrel but I am sure it's the same as the one for your barrel. Length is: 7" long and fits from rear of frame forward toward the muzzle. It appears the foulding from the flame at end of cylinder is just a bit less than 5.5" from rear. You might measure on your gun to see if that looks about right for where it would be from rear of frame. I no longer have an RB to do the measurement. It is used and was mounted at one time on one of my two RBs both of which were 8-3/8".

I also have a new still in plastic wrap base for an M44 12". It is just a fraction less than 7" long.

The one for the RB has three cross pieces and holes for the screws to hold it thru the holes in the vented rib and dthe M44 one has only two. The first and third for the RB line up with the two on the M44 base but the middle position present on the RB base is not there on the M44 base.

I am not telling you 100% that either or both will work but I am almost certain both would. I'll be happy to work with you in taking any measurements you need to help compare them to your revolver to be sure it fits in advance if you wish.

I will sell you either at $50 plus shipping cost for a small flat rate mailer box or both for $100 and I'll pay the shipping. If you buy them and when they get there you find it won't work even after us comparing measurements then if you return them to me in the same shape they were when you got them I will refund your money MINUS shipping cost I paid to get it to you. Your only cost if it doesn't work would be what it cost for shipping.

I've looked and compared the bottom of both bases where they would fit over the rib and it appears to me as best as I can tell without taking the new M44 base from package that both should fit the same guns. I say that in case you wish to have the new base as opposed to the used base.

Both are useable bases but the RB base has been used and thus shows normal wear from use.

If you prefer to take neither and take your chances of finding one elsewhere that is fine too. I have no use for these and so am offering them if you want them knowing how close to impossible it is to find correct base for the RBs from any source new.

I ordered my RB base straight from taurus, took a week to get to me.  Works.

Was going to take GB up on his offer.....then recieved an e-mail from Midway. Gave me a birthday discount in conjuction with another rebate, soo, had to get a scope while I was at it. Since they were soo cheap, I went ahead and ordered some reloading suplies, ended up running up a pretty good tab. Wife wasnt too thrilled, but ya know what they say "Easier to ask for forgiveness, rather than for permission", lol
