With the right bullet I would.  I was comparing the .45-70 & the .45-120 using smokeless powder.

And the .45-120 can achieve higher velocities, more muzzle energy, flatter trajectory, at lower pressures using more powder.  But powder is the cheap part.

Sounds good to me.

That's why I have one.

I don't believe it, that's why I'm going with the .45-90.

Like I and others said earlier, if sheer power is what you are after than yes, stay with the 70 and smokeless.
I want a different play toy so the BP loads will be researched and tinkered with.
May not be the ultimate but sure will be fun trying.
As long as the BP will equal factory smokeless velocity with decent accuracy than I will be happy.
Like all new toys, you just have to play with them.

Now, will the 120 ever take the place of my Handi 70, no way.
First off I don't think it will ever shoot that tight of a group, maybe?
Second is that long barrel.
Looks great and does have some advantage but then again that is why the BCs are not called Handis.
Just a little tight in a truck.   :D
Then again I have always liked the odd and the different.

I think what miyata said is correct.  A larger initial combustion volume should achieve higher velocity with the same peak pressure, assuming optimized powder loads are used in each.

I get 1330 fps with a 405 lead bullet and a load of 777 in my 45-70.  I then used a drop tube and was able to squeeze a little more power in there, but have not been able to shoot these yet.

When a 327 goes the same speed as a 427 on 1/2 the gas there's a reason to ask why I'd want the bigger engine.
honda goldwings ride nicer than harleys, but they dont sound cool.

For those of us who work hard, pay their bills, support the family and friends, pay their taxes, and serve/served their country.I adamantly say GO FOR IT!  If a 45-120 is what you want Get one.
As for Richard's comment on dating:
Seems like I have done the same thing ;D,however they didn't look so nice the next morning. (tequila makes all women pretty) :o
