200 yrds with a huntsman
« on: February 22, 2010, 03:50:33 PM »
So what do you guys think is 200yrds possible with a 24" huntsman? T/C and a couple of the others have been reporting 200 yrds. Just wondering if anyone has done this with theirs or what the thoughts were on it.

If so what loads were you using?

I never tried even at the range.  My question would be why??

Now that's quite a shot! My goal is to get em in as close as possible but sometimes it doesn't always work. You hear alot about 200 yrd muzzle loaders just wondering if its possible with the Huntsman. Just picked one up from a guy here on the forum, thanks Hank, and of course I can't get out to shoot in this weather so I'm just dreamin about what it will do.

I am pretty sure that with the right load and a very long practice time that could be done. Personally I have not had that much time to just keep shooting so I limit my shots to 100 yards or slightly over. I also would not chance that far with game unless it was deer size or smaller. Elk at 200 yards might just walk away, I have had them do that with good hits at 100 yards. They are really tough.

I had one of the first Huntsmans about 30 years ago in .45 caliber
and it was fully capable of 200 yard shots on milk jugs.
I never shot at game at that range with it but the accuray potential
was there. I never took a shot at game at that range simply because it never presented
itself.
