LIl GUN in 357 mag rifles.
« on: February 28, 2010, 04:50:09 PM »
Who here uses LIL GUN in their 357 mag rifles and what are you getting for velocities? I love this powder in my 22 hornet and it seems to give good velocitey verses pressure in the 357 mag as it does in the hornet.

Please share.

I haven't used it in 357 yet but I was looking at the 2010 Hodgdon manual and it looks like a great power for the 357 - high velocities with much lower pressure than other powders. I HAVE used it in my 41 mag rifle. I recall not feeling confident with it in the 41 but don't recall why. Maybe just that its the first can and I haven't gained confidence with it. The  high velocity with lower pressures sure appeals. I think I was getting better accuracy with H110 and 4227 in the 41.

I have been thinking about making some 357 180 gr loads using Lil Gun - don't recall if its recommended in the manual.

I loaded some for my contender in 357 mag, all with 158 gr. bullets, haven't tried them yet.
I got the load from the 2007 Hodgden Annual Manual, it was also listed in Handloader magazine.

I do use it in my 22 Hornet with good accuracy. Kind of a toss-up between Lil'Gun and H110 with the hornet.
Have to see how it performs in the mag, lot of powder choices for the 357.

It is also listed for the 180 Gr. bullet, will probably give them a try also.

It wasn't the best with 180xtp's in 357 H&R ,but not bad. It was great with 158 gr. Hornady xtp's, giving one hole groups at 40 yds.                       Alias
