Fioccho 90 Gr. HP for self defense carry? 380 cal.

The spec: on the 90 grain Fiocchi seem not far behind some ammo that states for self defense ammo like Remington saber 102 gr.Hornady self defense ammo
I would sat the HP bullet is made by Hornady the FPS 1030
Energy :210
would this be range ammo only

Lonewolf:  I wouldn't buy expensive hollowpoint expanding ammo for just range use - a real waste of $.  I also wouldn't buy that sort of ammo to carry in my 380 - doesn't penetrate as deeply as plain old ball ammo penetrates.  recent article on self defense ammo in different calibers, including the 380, showed youget better penetration with 380 ball than with expanding ammo, and if carrying the 380 during colder weather when multiply layered thugs might beset you, you would want the best penetration you can get.

My preferences aer the Sellier and Bellot 95 gn ball and the Winchester 95 gn flat point (indoor range ammo), and I recommend the winchester only because it has a flatter nose.  jmo.

+1 what Mikey said, in cold weather Win 95 grain flat point get my nod. When temps get warmer, I prefer hollow point ammo.  Fiocchi, Hornady, Win Silver tips, etc.  Watch what people are wearing, and when heavier jackets, become the norm (over tee's and windbreakers) switch to deeper penetrating ammo.

My favorite .380 carry load is the Buffalo Bore 100gr Hardcast load. Great penetration. I shot them in KelTecs, LCP and Sig 232s. Loaded hot too. Worth trying a box.

+1 for RevJim- the .380 no matter what bullet just doesn't have an expansion factor to help it. Never shot the buffalo-bore/ never needed it-don't own one. 9mm127 +P+ Winchester is lowest threshold I go.

The 380 is one of those rounds that really do not benefit from a hollow point.
I have tested it quite a bit  and the only round I was ever able to get consistant  expansion from was the Hydra-Shock.
and it was not much.

The Gold Dots expanded well in my 2 1/2 gallon water jug tests, as did the 80 gr. Barnes all copper HP. Both went into the 2nd jug, putting a dent in the back of the 2nd jug.
