Thinking of getting this for CCW. Anyone have one? What's your opinion?

Ted

I got to fondle one today at the gunshop and from what I saw it would be a very nice CCW pistol thin, flat and very concelable, thinking of one myself. The owner at the shop told me the one he fired was very accurate and controlable. It also felt good in the hand.

I have one.  Got it riding in a Crossbreed Snapslide as I type.  Compared to my Ruger P89, light as a feather.  Shoots good - I like it and have zero problems since I got it (late December 09) and over 100 rds.

Was in my local gunshop here in Aiken (own stock in it  :D),,,and the owner was showing me a Slim in SS that had exploded. He said he has sold a couple in the last few weeks or so and all came back for severely bulging cases. He tried to fire one and fed and fired 2 winchester white box rounds and the 3rd it went kaboom. Barrel and metal work where still intact but the whole right side and some of the left of the plastic reciever was blown out. Injured his hand(still numb), cut his face. He contacted Taurus on monday and is still awaiting a reply(today is thursday). He seems to think it is related to the sequential serial numbers because they all where close. Just hope it is just a certain run or certain date time group involved.

I like the heavier, all steel Taurus models for carry.  They hit harder when you have to throw them at someone...

Sarcastic, yes, but I have had experience with or owned five Taurus products thru the years, and all have had problems, two of a dangerous nature.  A few years go by, a new model comes out, the advertising hungry gun magazines give a good review, so you figure, maybe they have their act together now.....Sucker.. :'(

Bought a 709 Slim last Saturday and after cleaning put about 65 rounds of Georgia Arms 115 gr. FMJ through it. No failures to fire, but had about 15 or so failures to eject properly, resulting in a jam. Called Taurus Monday and as expected, was told to try a different brand of ammo, and give it about 200 rounds. I've bought some Winchester and Federal 124 gr. FMJ to try, but haven't had the opportunity. I did inform the hispanic sounding young lady in customer service that this was my first Taurus purchase, and compared to the 3 Glocks that I own, which have yet to have any failure of any kind, I was less than impressed with Taurus so far. Final judgement pending.

I just purchased the stainless model this week.  Took it out in the rain today and shot 200 rounds of PMC and Winchester 115gr FMJ.  Not one single failure.  It just keeps shooting as fast as I pull the trigger.  My only complaint is the mag release is a bit small.  I shot it at 7 yards and the accuracy was perfectly acceptable to me.  So far I'm real happy with it.

I have one that I've put about 500 rounds through and the only problem I've had is that the rear sight is supposed to be fully adjustable, well it isn't.So I sent the sight back to taurus, hopefully I will get another one in a week or two.Meantime I can practice my point shooting.Other than that no problems at all.
