What is the Ultimate Predator, in your opinion?
As well, what is this species role in today's environment?

Easy answer IMO (if in the sense of predator calling).   In the lower 48 - mountain lion.   That means one on one with a mouth call - no dogs or horses - just your skill against his, on his turf.

gb is right man is the ultimate predator but as an man i once had this conversation with, peter capstick once told me he felt it would be the leopard. i personaly think the wild dogs of africa are the most efficent. all said and done i sure love old wiley.

Last I checked, the Bible tells us that we have dominion over all other species, right?

On a side note.....
Was at a local college today for work and ended up taking a free cookie from some table in the lunch room.
The guy gave me a brochure to browse.
The distributor? A certain group of looney tunes.
Yep....P*ta.

The cookie was crap anyway, and it went in the trash with the brochure.

I would be willing to bet my life savings there are mountain lions in east Tenn. If we've got them here around Birmingham(my dad, uncle, man in my old hunting club saw a blond and black, neighbors saw a black one a few years ago where I live now that used to make his rounds in the small country neighborhood-although the state government refuses to believe they are here for some reason), they have to be up there in that beautiful part of the country.

actually the predator i would fear the most would be the great white bear of the artic. eats only meat, has no enemy other than man, kills and eats anything it can catch! now where do i get a "seal in distress call"?

I went hunting this evening at a food plot at our hunting club. I had my wife with me on her first hunt. We sat in a shooting house and didn't see anything but about 5 turkeys and a couple of brown thrashers scoping us out. At one point, one was on our left and right side looking in at us. They usually stay on the ground in the brush. I was beginning to think they were going to attack. They would have been no match for that 7mm mag(if I could hit them).

Ultimate predator - the velociraptors. Their impact on the modern environment - not very much, but if they decide to become unextinct You won't be roaming the woods much anymore!

My vote would go for predatory birds. I believe in air power.

cowboyace, the brown thrasher is a small bird about the size of starling or so. they are very viscious and known to kill other animals up to  the size of grasshoppers! be very carefull around them and treat them as you would a griz with a abcessed molar.

Mountain lion is the first animal that came to mind when I read the question but coyote is an awsome predator too.  I think the finest predator on earth is the killer whale.  Big enough, fast enough, and strong enough to kill a great white shark one on one but also smart enough to hunt in packs like wolves.  Free willy vs. jaws any bets?

Thats funny Griz. But democrats are more like scavengers or like some sort of rodent. In these parts, it is the grizzle bear top. Then Mt lions then coyote. But the most versatile, feed itself in dire straits predator is the eagle.
