Winchester 9422 - what rings?
« on: February 27, 2010, 11:42:44 AM »
I want to mount a Leupold 1-4 on my 9422.
What kind of rings do you recommend?

Since the rifle has the 3/8"  dovetail for the Tip-Off mount, you either have to use the standard Tip-Off mount or get a Weaver adaptor to use the standard Weaver-type rings.  The Weaver .22 Tip-Off at WalMArt runs about $10.00.  I just mounted a long-eye relief 2.5X Simmons on mine.  The eye relief is long enough so the rear of the scope is just far enough forward so the hammer can be grabbed.  You will have to get a hammer extension if the scope objective is too far back.  Of course you can use a see-thru mount to raise the scope high enough to give access to the hammer, but then it is too high.

Not the exact answer you were looking for but before you get the leupold consider the above scope. They have it in 4x, 6x and 3-9x and it is a mini size scope so the entire thing will fit over the receiver of a rimfire lever action. Got one 3-9x on a bl-22 and another 6x on a henry and they fit perfectly and are sized to rimfires. I uses the standard leupold 22 rings. Tried other scopes but as the other poster said, their length always cause problems. As far as the quality, they have given me no problems and are clear and the AO lets you focus at any distance, even acorns at 10 yds. I am very happy with them and wish I could have had them 20 years ago . Wish leupold or someone else made similar mini size scopes for my centerfire levers but not yet. Hope it helps.

( you can find sks versions in 4x and 3-9x but they have no AO for close rimfire ranges and the one I tried was junk though my cousin had some luck with a 4x version, thinkit was a NCstar or something like that. also the leapers were like $70.00 or something around that)

Those are great scopes!  Any idea on how well they hold up?

My guess is about like any $70.00 scope.  In life there is no free lunch.

I have a Tasco World Class on my 9422M in the high rings. It is a 3-9x44mm. It is my tied favorite (with my 94M) and it has never missed. I have missed but the gun has never missed when I do my part.

In one of my drawers - I found a couple of mounts (3/8") for airguns  :D
