You need:

1 standard size roll of Cheap Toilet Paper
1 Coffee can the size of that roll
1 bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol

Stuff the TP into the Coffee can, and pour the bottle of alcohol in the can until the TP won't absorb anymore.  Put the lid on it, and light it when you need it.  To put it out, just put the lid back on.  I learned this as a kid from my father, and we used them in our deer stands.  It emits a low blue flame and quite a bit of heat.  They don't really smell too bad, but their is a slight smell of alcohol, so you might want to just use it at camp.  It never hurt our hunting while in the stand, though.

But if the lid is plastic it would melt right off....Or are you talking about the metal piece inside?

Oops...I always forget the important part.  I use aluminum foil.  Anything that will not melt or catch fire to cut off the oxygen will work.

Howdy:

This is a great trick...I have used this for years in the duck blind - I generally stay out long enough for the alcohol to finish burning, let it cool down and then just put the plastic lid back on.  I guess the aluminum foil idea is a good one - got to try it this season.  Oh yes, the first time this is used, P.U. - th epaint on the can smells foul when burning - after that - warm hands.

Use a 1qt paint can, and you have a lid that doesn't melt. Use methyl hydrate for the fuel, it burns hotter without the smell. Poke holes in the side of 1 gallon paint can, and turn it upside down over it and you have a safer litttle stove with a good cooking surface, as well as a container with a handle to store it all in, along with enough room for a plastic box for matches etc.

Sand and Kerosene in an old paint can work well also.  Coffee can with a wire handle will work too.  I really like the alcohol and TP idea,  will use it...Dallas

I've used fiberglass insulation and denatured alcohol in a pint stain or paint can for a backpacking stove. You can just put the lid back on to extinguish it.
