45 gr 22cal

Hi all , anyone have a load with this bullet [45grgc] that will cycle a mini 14 ?  JB

pretty tough to shoot a 45 grain cast bullet fast enough to run an action. Most people doing the 22 cast in ars and minis go with heavier then normal bullets like 70 grain. the 45 grain cast are mostly designed for 22 hornets.

Concur with Lloyd, by the time you get a load to function with that light of a cast bullet the velocity will be way to high for the 7 or 9" twist.  Minimal weight I've had success with in 9" twist ARs and an older 10" twist Mini14 is the 225462 which runs 60 gr.  70 gr cast work better but not much.  I used 4895 with a 1/2 gr dacron filler; start at 16 gr and work up in 1/2 gr increments until functioning is reliable.  Accuracy will be what it is.

I have the Saco 60 gr for my mini 14  -- feeds ok,, (RCBS 55gr too)   I think it is ez to pump it up a little to much and lead  up the barrel --  but I"ve had fun when I get the powder charge right..........    I shoot a lot of light loads  and hand cycle each in ...
  I like the 14, but wonder -- a mini 30 would shot cast better...

 

Midsouth's -- Lee -55gr Bator,  is nice too   at $20..

Lee, I can't get 160gr to cycle an sks so mini 30 ?  I don't have 1 to try ... JB

I had to step up 4gr from where I was working on the most accurate to get the SKS to cycle with the 160 lead...



I can send you a few 60 gr 223 if you want ..........if someone has a 70 gr or so in 223 /224 -- mold I'd pay shipping if I could try a few of your cast bullets../ or trade     .........    Dan
