security six
« on: January 14, 2010, 12:16:06 PM »
Well stopped at the local pawn and brought this home with me 165.00 OTD
Not in the best shape but I think it will do for the price. Also came with a leather cheapo hunter holster.

cleaned it up today. I will take it out tomorrow for a shooting and see what it likes to eat.
Looked up the numbers and it was made in 1975.

And to think it was just a few days ago I posted a complaint that these guns were increasingly rare and more expensive on the big name auctions!  Looks like a smart buy.  I'd grab it too at that price.  I love my stainless version.

Great price. I have one just like it. Was a piece of junk until I sent it back to Ruger for some repairs. What they sent me back was basically a new gun. Very pleased with it. Mine loves the 158's either mild or wild.

Yeeooooooooo, what a price.

A friend is going to help sell a bunch of firarms for family after the death of his brother-in-law.

I keep hoping there will be a bunch of goodies just like that Security waiting to come home and all without paper work!

Bought a new one years ago, and had no paperwork with that one.  Never did figure out how or why the dealer didn't have me signing a bunch of papers.

I put a set of speed springs in that one, and what a sweet trigger!

I did go back to the standard hammer spring as the light one didn't give relyable ignition, but the trigger remained crisp with no creep.

That was one great gun, and I could do with a bunch more just like it was.

Keep em coming!

Well the 357mag ammo is controllable just fine. It seems to like 38spec better or it may be I just like the recoil of 38special better.
The guy at the pawn shop is a real good friend and he will give a break every once in a while.
Sort of repayment for the quail hunting trips I take him on. Although not necessary for him to repay for anything.
He has told me he has allot of stuff coming in but nobody buying.
He keeps me in mind for older revolvers and pistols.

Were you wearing a mask?  ;D

In nice shape they bring $350-400.  Beat up still +$100 what you paid.

I put a set of Hogue grips on mine. They fit my hand much better and tamed the recoil of the magnums much better than the factory ones.

One great thing about them is the way they "field strip."

Quick and simple.

Really handy if you happen to shoot a lot of cast .38 loads, as it is very simple to remove the cylinder for soaking in Hoppe OR????? to take the lube ring out of the chambers.

Doesn't need it very often, but when the .357s start to chamber hard it is a quick and easy fix.

Keep em coming!

mine is blued mid 1980's with a 2.75 inch barrel and Pachmayr Grips.  It's my go-to night stand revolver.
I was recently offered 350.00 for it and told 'em no way.

Well here goes I went and saw my buddy today he had another Security Six but with a short barrel.
He went up on this one 250.00 OTD. He also said I must have caught him in a weak moment on the first one. But I guess I will use the justification of cost averaging.
I think I may have some illness. Both of the revolvers were made in 1975.
