O.A.L. 223 w/69 grain matchking bullet?
« on: March 07, 2010, 01:12:18 PM »
My Stoney Point gauge tells me my lans are at 2.33" with this bullet and the Load Book says to use 2.260.  I have loaded some 2.235 and 2.250 loads.  Neither one is shooting that great, but the gun is new.  I am using Varget for powder.  I was going to load a batch at 2.31" when I decided to ask for some suggestions.

I should add that I am working with a NEF Ultra Rifle.

What O.A.L are you using with a 69 grain matchking bullet.  Please advise.

I'm not using the 69.0gr. Sierra MatchKing, but rather the Nosler Custom Competition bullets loaded to 2.380" with bench rest primers and 26.0gr. of Varget.

The 2.26" is for the autoloaders (AR15, M4) so it will fit in a standard magazine.  If your gage is correct then 0.02" off the lands should be fine.  You probably need the 1:9 twist barrel to stabilize this bullet.  I have loaded these bullets for my kids AR 15 but not my Handi so I am no help regarding the load.

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?
