458 win mag/ 458 lott/ out of a 45-70

So I finally got my 45-70 handi going. I am wondering if I can shoot any other 458 cal loads out of it since the barrel is .458 so? I would like some advice before I go and try it my self. Thank's GBO members

No the maximum pressure and case head size would cause the barrel lug to set back. Handis cannot handle the magnums.

I shot 45-70 and also 458 Win Mag. I can't even imagine how brutal 458 Win Mag would be in the Handi with 500 Gr solids........

You can shoot Ruger #1 level 45-70 loads out of ( so I have been told on here). That will get you up to the bottom end 458 Win velocities.

But you can as many of our members here have ream it out to 45-120 and you will have a 458 level rifle.

Yes the handis will take the hotter 45-70 loads, but generally the shooters shoulder will not. 
 Personally, I keep my handis to about 1600 fps with a 400gr slug. My Marlin and Browning SS will get the stomping 200fps 400 gr loads. They simply handle the recoil better.
