Twist (1:48) is too slow for those, but mine works very well with Lyman 45 cal. Mine' bullets. Gonna open up a 44 mag mould to paper patch for it some day, but haven't yet. It should stabilize a solid bullet up to about 250 grains. You could try some lighter 45 auto bullets sized down, I haven't yet.

You sure can try them without doing any harm Huntsman.  Won't hurt to try.

I assume you already have the mold.  If not, I wouldn't buy one for that purpose.  I believe those bullets are designed for a gas check, which is not really what you want for a muzzle loader.  You should cast them from pure lead, lube them, and probably use a wad of some sort under them.  I've never gotten great accuracy with cast pistol bullets out of my .45 Renegade with the 1:30 twist Green Mountain barrel, but you may have good results.  It should be fun to try.

I would suggest  a wad under that bullet over 70grains P pyrodex.. ;D and after you fire it out of that Cherokee you'll be more than happy to use the round ball. :o
I tried a few maxi-balls out of my 45 Cherokee with 70 grains and my shoulder couldn't stand to shoot anythiny for several days...Seriously if you decide to try that 300 grainer start with about 50 grains..I suggest you weigh yor cherokee with the 45 barrel on it..

I'd been happily shooting T/C Maxi-Hunters out of my .45 Cherokee for almost 30 years, before my BF talked me out of it.
He's been doing the same, ever since - but says he doesn't care for the way the squared-off comb slaps him in the chops................... I must have fat chops, 'cause I never noticed.   ::)

I'd trade my house and my dog and my Jeep  and my Orvis flyrod for a .45 Cherokee.  I had one a long time ago.  Had a Seneca too.  Why do people sell something they bought for less money than they paid?  Why can't folks look ahead a few years?  I haven't even seen a Cherokee for fifteen years.

Its funny you mention that cause just in the last few months I've seen more Thompson Center New Englanders, Cherokees, Hawken and a flint Philadelphia all going up for sale.
This is of course is all in Canada, I can't imagine what kind of sales are going on down south of here?
Actually, I just passed up a Cherokee in .32 because his price was too high for me.

Hey Mike....I'll take the house and Jeep "as is" but, does the dog hunt? and what length and line weight is the Orvis.  Since you're here in The Commonwealth the freight will be cheap.
Now before Tim runs us outta here....I'm not sure we're serious ;D......Well, what the heck...it is friday. :D
