Do the barrel inserts work?
« on: March 05, 2010, 02:23:10 PM »
I keep seeing these inserts for barrels which would allow a 22 Hornet or 22 Magnum or what-not to be fired from a .223 barrel.  Do they work or are they worth a purchase?  I have a .223 barrel I cannot seem to get to fire on my frame no matter what ammo I use, yet all my other calibers from 22 to 45 work, and I am wanting to do something with the barrel or find an alternative use for it.

I have a 10" 223 barrel that I sometimes use a 22LR insert in. I know that some people dont like them but I do.
It is slow to reload since the 22 shell needs to be punched out of the insert with a screwdriver or nail. I dont use near as much ammo shooting it as I do when I use my Ruger Mk1. I have a 1.25X4 scope on this barrel and I love to shoot long range targets with the 22s. Mine is fairly accurate. I only paid like fifteen bucks for it, what the heck do you have to lose?

I like the .223 to .22 adapter on the contender best as you dont have to use the little inserted cf to rf plug. I've had them on encore and contender .223 pistols, also have them to shoot pistol rounds in a 20 and 12 ga. Lots of fun!
