sig 232 for wife

she wants a handgun-I'm torn between the sig 232 and the walther PPK in a 380. Haven't used the 232 yet but the grips look quite bulky. Does anyone have opinions which I should buy.

Marty.  I think you need to redirect that question...........whick one does SHE like?  If the gun is truly for her, then don't buy one to please you! Let her make the choice.

I was in the same boat and ended up with the PPK.  She likes it and it seems a little thinner in the grip area

I have owned both at the same time and now only own an older Walther .380.  The erg's on these guns are super, (hammer bite not withstanding), the better is the Sig.  Both have tremendous "sex appeal". Both are very slim and easily carried.  The negative is that both are a fixed barrel blow back design which increases felt recoil.  Most women think the recoil is too much.  My wife was one such person.
If you have the option to borrow a friend's gun take your wife to the range and have her shoot the gun(s) to be certain before you buy that the recoil does not intimidate her.
Having said all that the John Browning design guns particularly in polymer are much softer shooting guns.  The Kahr, Glock, Sigma and Steyr come to mind.

I bought the P-232 for my wife and kept it for my self. that will teach me for picking out a gun for her. Real nice gun, I carry a G-23, but this .380 is a good shooter..It will be my summer time carry gun.

Good grouping----But ---I don't see any powder burns on the paper. Thats about the only way I get groups that good.

I made a big mistake. After shooting (me and my wife) about 300 rounds (not on the same day) the PPKS jammed and I couldn't open the slide nor would the trigger operate. Lucky it was not loaded. Sent the PPK back to S&W and they've had it 3 months. When I contacted them they said to be patient since mine was one of the recalled guns. Seems most of their production of the PPKS was recalled. I asked them to give me a time frame when it would be returned and they had no idea. When it comes back I'm trading it in for the 232 or the CZ83.

Marty, my wife has been shooting all summer and early fall with her pistols she and I purchased for her. In the Sig Sauer line of pistols, she has had the P-232 and the P-239 which she likes a lot and is very accurate on the range shooting. It is a .40 caliber but she has worked up to being able to use this pistol............over 5000 rounds fired in various pistols since May.

I don't like the magazine release on the Sig P-232, it takes 2 hands to drop the magazine and that is NO-Good for a CCW weapon in my humble opinion. The Walther has a magazine release on the trigger (a lever type) guard and that takes 2 hands to be able to drop the magazine, once again this is NO GOOD for a CCW weapon. The wife now has 3 pistols that she shoots well, a GLOCK 22 (.40cal) & Glock 17 and the Sig P-239, which has had the springs lighened up to a 1st shot, 7.5-lb double action pull and single action pull there after of 4-lbs. I have adopted her model 19 Glock for my very own and put it with the rest of the Glock family in our vault.

Just an update- after 4 months I got the PPKS back from S&W. I figured I would take it to the range once more. Was I surprised. They not only fixed the problem but the trigger pull is light and crisp. My wife loves the gun too. It is accurate and I haven't had a jam after several hundred rounds. I guess I'll keep it.

I have two Sig P230's a .32acp and a 380acp.  The only problem I have them is which one to carry.  Both weigh the same and shoot the same (excellent)  the 32acp kicks a lot less which helps.   Use Buffalo Bore ammo in them when I carry.  The .380 with 100gr BB round has around 300lbs ft ME so it is equiv to 9mm with lighter bullets and the 32acp with 75gr BB round equiv to a .380 heavy load.  So I have the best of two worlds, guns are nice and skinny and easy to hide and shoot plus very accurate.

To keep my annual certification up for nationwide carry, I bought a Sig 232 and used it at the range instead of my Sig 229, which is worn from years of service duty.  The 232 gave me a perfect score each session, at distances up to 25 yards.  I stupidly traded it off when a penetration test into wet phonebooks revealed that I only needed one phonebook to test a .380.  A weak cartridge, to be sure, when compared to what "on duty" folks carry; however, for a retired cop who isn't enforcing the law, and for anyone who simply needs to save himself in an extreme emergency, I think a .380 is enough, especially considering carry time compared to acutal need.

The next gun I buy will be a Sig 232 with night sights, and I intend to stop toting the heavier calibers.

Further testimony in favor of a Sig 232:  I have a Ruger LCP .380.  It functions fine, it's easy to carry in a pocket, but it has very limited range compared to a 232.  While the 232 can keep all rounds in the head of a sillouette target at 25 yards, the LCP will not regularly hit the target at all at that distance.
