These things are pretty big!

Dan Wesson 44 Magnum, made in 1981.

A serious chunk of steel.

Yes they were made stout to handle fulll power loads and a lot of them - back in the eighties a lot of us were doing IMHSA long range steel shooting with lots of full power loads - made you want to trade you S&W 29 in for a Dan Wesson or Ruger Redhawk as I saw more than one smith stretch/spring a side plate with the loads and amount of rounds used.  You should find that revolver capable of grouping its rounds into a six inch or smaller group at 200 meters.

Welcome fellow Dan Wesson owner, they're addictive.  You might also want to check out thedanwessonforum.com , they're dedicated to the DW with lots of very useful info archived.

Welcome
I grew up shooting Smiths. I bought a Taurus Ultra light a while back (because I couldn't afford the S&W) and just never really carried it. It was ok but wasn't really as smooth as the Smiths I grew up on. So I traded it off for a  "beater" 6" DW 44 mag and fell in love with it after shooting it just a few times. Now, I won't even look at the Taurus's (except the Judge. Man that's a cool pistol!) at the shops anymore. Heck, I won't even look at many Smiths. :D I love my DW and as soon as money permits I will buy (if I can find it) a 2" 357. Welcome to the addiction. ;D

My 1978 DW Model 15 V4 with VH6 barrel and it's Pachmayr grips for woods carry. The VH6 now sports a 2x7 scope for range fun.
