Tikka questions

Hello everyone,
  I have been watching and handling the Tikka rifles for several years without ever shooting or owning one. I like how they feel, especially the bolt smoothness! I know they are generally lighter rifles than the Win 70 and Rem 700s, seem to be quite accurate, and I've never heard from anyone that didn't like them. I have been considering purchasing one in 6.5x55 since they came out. Has anyone seen or owned one that has the set-trigger? Is that a nice feature or useless? What else can you tell me that will convince me to buy a Tikka T3 and leave my semi-custom Win 70 SS 30-06 at home?

I am not a Tikka "know it all" but I don't know of any Tikka T3 with a set trigger.  CZ is the only one I know that you can get a set trigger in a 6.5 x 55 which I have one.  I love my CZ but if I could to it over I would go with the Tikka.  I really like a light rifle.  The CZ is nice but it is heavy.  I have a Tikka in 30-06 and it is a tack driver like most Tikkas.

my  tikka   in  25-06
has an excellent  single trigger

it comes with  instruction  to  adjust it yourself

I'm sure they all come with a single trigger in comparison to a double set trigger. Here's a spec sheet that states all models are available with a single set trigger.

I used a few rifles in Germany that had a single-set trigger and it was a nice option to have for a long shot. Not somehting to play with in the stand though.  ::)

Slickest action around.
Trigger is nice, I don't think they import the set triggers to the US.

The 5 guys at our deer camp think my T3 Lite .270 is the easiest rifle to shoot they've ever held.  It's a combination of weight distribution and the excellent trigger.  It just goes off when the cross hair is exactly where you want it.  Puts a smile on my face every time I dry fire it, and an even bigger smile when I pop clays at 100 yd offhand. ;D  Not many rifles I'd even try to do that with.

That settles it!  :) I need to find one to shoot just as your friends did. Then and only then will I know......

I have a T3 Lite in 300 Win Mag in my safe.

It kicks like a mule, the stock is too short for bigger folk, it hits what you aim at.

Looking to have a full size wood stock made for it. No where close to my Rem 700

I've had a T3 Hunter in 6.5x55 for a few years and I love it. With 140g partitions set .005 off the lands and Reloader 22, she prints consistent 3/8" groups. Before tuning the seating, just under an inch.

With my T3 Lite in 338WM however, I can't even get close to the rifling due to the magazine length. But she still shoots, although not as nicely as the Swede. One day I switched the wood stock from the Swede onto the 338, and it kicked harder. The synth stock, even though lighter than the wood, is easier on your cheek and shoulder due to the shock absorbing qualities. The stock dimensions make it bearable to shoot, but not too many rounds. I have the same model scope on each, so I practice more with the Swede!

Wish I could have gotten the Swede in SS Lite, but not available at the time. You will not be dissappointed.

  I have a Tikka .243 Hunter. Real slick action and a under one inch group using whatever I have on hand. The one thing I have to watch is when I chamber a second round I don`t pull the bolt completely rearward. This will jam the action. Other than that , it is lightweight, the safety is in the right spot, and it is a joy to carry....

  That is the reason why, if/when I do get a Tikka, it will be a long action. I don't particularly like the fact they made them all on the same action. The Army has made the M24 sniper rifles on long actions so they could just rebarrel to a .300 Win Mag from the standard .308 Win. The only complaint our snipers had of the rifles, too long of an action for the .308.

 Agree, in retrospect I wished I would have gotten a 6.5 Swede. The more I read about that round the more I like it! This is the first long action using a short action cartridge I`ve used. Takes a bit of getting used to. In fact, I still ain`t used to it!!

You should check with Beretta USA on that jam issue. First time of heard of that. They used different bolt stops as part of the bolt release for the different cartridge lengths (S,M,L), and that may be what is going on. Also check to see that your magazine is marked "S" on the follower for the 243 short action length. I would call them first, since they may be able to mail a part out to you instead of having to send the whole rifle in. Their service is good quality, but slow. Hope it works out

I'll include a positive, at least in my mind. The dovetail cut into the receiver to mount a scope. Saves one more joint between scope and gun, less money to spend to boot. I use Warne rings on mine, they have a locating pin that mates to a hole bored into the dovetail. That scope moving is the least of my worries.

It is a nice light comfortable gun to carry as well. If you are one to shoot with a tight sling you may not want the synthetic stock, it's not rubber but is far from being stiff enough to tolerate a good tight sling position.

I have a 595 LH in .223 and 695 LH in .308.  Both tack drivers with Black Hills blue box reloads.  I also load my own and get great results.  I fell in love with the glass like bolt when I first handled the .223 - when I shot it I was hooked.
I don't really care for the T3 series with the one size fits all receiver.  Especially if you like short action caliber like the 6.5.  I would look for a used 595 .... in fact I think I will for my collection!!!!!! ;D

Either way, great shooters, can't go wrong.

They are the most consistently accurate rifles I've ever owned. You can get an accurate rifle from any manufacturer, but I bought a .30-06, .243 and then a .270 and every one is a shooter. Factory triggers are adjustable and excellent. You'd be hard pressed to find a smoother bolt. The magazines are some sort of high tech plastic, but they are very durable. I've dropped them on concrete with no ill affects. They guaranty MOA accuracy, but in realty you can expect 1/2 MOA or better with good ammo in any Tikka T-3.
