magazine compatability

I want to buy a carbine and handgun of the same caliber.  Are the magazines interchangeable?

 The pistol-style magazines for the 4095 .40 S&W carbine are fully interchangeable with the Hi-Point .40 S&W pistol. No such compatibility was advertised by Hi-Point regarding the original 995 carbine and the 9mm C-9 pistol; owners of both designs have reported that they are not completely interchangeable.[citation needed] The shorter pistol magazine is not long enough to fit the carbine, however, the longer carbine magazine will fit into the pistol.

They are supposed to be coming out with a 45 carbine that will have magazine compatability with the pistol, release date May 2010.  But don't hold your breath until May they have been changing that date for 3 years!

I believe production of 40 carbine has been suspended until the new 9 carbine is released and production is caught up.

That's exactly what my dealer told me yesterday, so I went ahead and ordered the 9mm.  I'll pick up a pair of 40s later this year.
