The "Big" Clean
« on: March 04, 2010, 11:40:30 AM »
This morning it was warm enough to begin the Big clean in the back yard. Snow had melted down to the privacy fence, and the ground had begun drying out. I looked at my one east area, covered by old cedar chips, and had decided the chips had to go, but dang, most were still frozen together. The plan is to put 2 pear trees in, and a patio stone walkway, and a bench, along with wildflowers. Then I saw the leaves
around and under the ATV trailers, and had to tackle that.  Well, at least I got a start on it. Big snowstorm forecast for this weekend in Wyoming. Yeah I know, I'm jumping the gun. I always do.

Supposed ta be high 60s here this weekend and some talk of it maybe reaching 70. I'm liking it and figure I might get out and do something. I'm never inclined to get out and do much when things are still frozen.

My onion sets are in route and if they get here will go in the ground this weekend. I'm actually late on them.

BIG ol' snowflakes a coming straight down right now, whiteout conditions, and in the low 30's this morning. ;D
I tend to get in those super cleaning modes right before a storm. This will be super good moisture, as its staying pretty warm all weekend. Gonna sit out on the back deck with a cup of of steaming java and watch the snow come down. Great work, if ya can find it... ;D

Didn't warm as much as it was supposed to here. It was 25 this morning with a heavy frost and when I woke from my nap a few minutes ago it was only 54 not the promised 60. That makes me wonder about those high 60s for the weekend as well.

Still a pear tree and three yellow raspberry bushes came in the mail yesterday so must go in the ground today.

Thinking about tilling tomorrow.  Weather looks nice for a change.  Wife planted lots of indoor seeds today under a grow light.  Getting the gardening itch.  Got my soil test results.

It didn't warm as much as promised today but still it made mid 50s. The pear tree and raspberry bushes are in the ground. There was an extra "something" in the box that wasn't marked and didn't have much root to it. So I potted that one and will see if it lives and if so if I can identify it before I decide to make a hole for it.

More should be on the way soon. From one place I have around 150 trees coming that are going to need to be planted or potted depending on the size and how healthy they look. If they are small and roots aren't too long I'll likely pot some until they show me if they are gonna live. Those too large to pot or looking healthy enough will go directly into the ground. That's gonna be a lot of holes when that shipment shows up.

Got my seeds, whoohoo, and fencing to go around the garden. My young dog had a thing for grabbing veggies out of the garden last year. She was a stray when I got her, caught flying chickadees right out of the air. She was very resourceful. So a 5ft fence is going up this year, and I moved the birdfeeder way over to my little aspen grove to deter her "snackgrabbing." ;D
