Now I Have Rocks in my Head
« on: March 09, 2010, 12:57:49 PM »
God help me, I had sold a .50cal rocklock two years ago, in a fit of financial insecurity.    ???

This year, a BAD case of seller's remorse had set in, so I tried  to massage it, first with a .54 TC Rengade, and then last week a .32 GM/TC Hawken - but both were CAPLOCKS !    ::)

Today, though - I feel MUCH better !

I bought this A&H Mountain Rifle - a .50cal flinter:    ;D

AND  (best of all)  it's a 1:66 RB shooter, w/32" bbl, 1" across the flats.

I'll get up a range report, soon.

Nice rifle!  Is the stock cherry?  It's got real nice "character"!

Nothing wrong with caplocks.  Your flintlock looks nice.

Maple I'd say...  :-\  That sure is one pretty rifle gun!   ;D  There's just something about them...  And you say that's a production rifle?

Austin & Halleck has closed their doors.

One of their old links is still active.

I can't believe I never heard of them.  :-\  They obviously made a fine rifle.  Heck, I'd be proud to say I made that one myself!   ;D  Judging just by the trigger guard and butt plate it looks like it was patterned after Hawkin's rifles.  Heck, that maple has more figure then the stock I've got for a .32 I've been working on.   :o  A really great rifle!  Congrats again!   ;D

AFAIK, I bought the standard grade Mountain Rifle  - but A&H also made the identical rifle (they made side hammer caplocks & bolt-action inlines, too) with fancy tiger Maple stocks as a "High grade", like this one currently on GB:

The "made in Spain" barrels were available in either 1:66" twist for RB, or 1:28" for conicals - whether cap or flint lock.

I especially like the browned finish to the metal parts - very traditional.

Couldn't swing the $$ at the time :(

"Rocklock". Took a couple of seconds for that to soak in.  ::) Those first two are nice but the A&H is really sweet. Too bad they closed their doors.
