Does anyone hunt with a saiga yet?

I found these to be very affordable,  very accurate and the russian quality is unmatched.  You can take it down in seconds to clean and lube it properly too.

My Saiga in 308win with its 16" barrel will shoot at 100yds benchrested 1 1/2" groups using south african 308 FMJ ball ammo (surplus).  I'm sure a better quality ammo could tighten it up a lot more.  This is built on the ak47 design and has been battle field proven for many years plus its in a sporter wrapper.   Its very light to handle too.

All i did was to lube it with moly and it feels like a more expensive gun too.

I had a remington semi auto years ago and i couldn't take it down to clean it properly.

I was waiting on the Saiga 100 in 30-06.  From what I read they only made about 100.  I was waiting to see one before deciding on that versus a Rem. 750 in 30-06.

The rifles are quite different - the Remington is a nicely finished commercial firearm made for the typical hunter. The Saigas are a military design with a decent fit and finish but with a lean towards the make it unbreakable military approach. It depends on your use which one to go with. If you can live with a low maintenance not so pretty to look at rifle get the Saiga in 308 long barrel with wood and you will be happy.

I have one in the 7.62 X 39 round.  I put a peep sight on it to replace the military style rear sight.  It shoots well at 100 yards.  I have not taken it hunting yet...one day I will.

I think the new russian izhmash saiga is the hottest buy on the planet right now.  Its affordable, accurate, easy to maintain plus fun to shoot.  Remember were buying a brand new russian manufactured ak47/akm. I find the saiga in 308 and the 223 area hoot to shoot.  They make a nice looking pair with there 16" barrels.

My pics are not working today but I have .223-762x39-.308.  All shoot great, never malfunction, light, easy to carry, have 30 rnd. mags for the .223 and the 762x39, would like to find some for the .308, bought them back when they were cheap.  $160 for the .223 and the
762 and $190 for the .308.  All 3 are the 16" synthetic.

I found them while going to purchase a springfield armory M1a.  As i seen the rack of the new black rifles and noticed they were ak's i stopped and looked.  The rack was full of 16" barreled 308's for only $389, actually $307OTD.  Since we were days away from going deer/bear hunting i threw it in the car too.  We shot it after we were done hunting using south african 308 ball ammo.  Everyong at my camp was impressed how it could shoot accurately and how good it cycled.  When we got home i went back to the gun shop and went looking for another one and the 308's were all gone.  But he had the saiga's in 223 sitting there.  I was never interested in the 223 round nor the high priced black rifles that shoot it but for just $259 i got a new rifle in 223.  The saiga's in 308 have gone up but there still under $500.  The 223's have gone up much less.  But we need to keep in mind that these are brand new russian izhmash ak/akm's not someone's imported butchered rework.  These are flawless right out of the box.

I was never interested in a sheetmetal stamped gun either but the russians sure got the design down, these are awesome.
They come in the calibers of; 7,62x39 russian, 223rem, 5,56x39 and in 308 right now.  I haven't seen the 30-06's yet.  I hear thru the grapevine that a saiga in 7,62x54r may arrive soon too.  I hope it does with all the cheap surplus ammo around.

  I recently got a Saiga in 223.  I realy like this rifle.  It's a little front heavy, but still handles well.  Excellent shooter.

  One reason I bought it is that a number of years ago I got a couple of cases of Wolf ammo and just tucked it away.  Fact is, an AR15 takes long enough to clean without the crud that luquered ammo puts in the chamber, and the Wolf seems to clog a gas tube like nothing else.   The Russian rifles seem to like the Russian ammo much better.  Who'd have thunk it ?

  The Saigas are kind of like the Mini 14 used to be; a knock around rifle for reasonable money.  Now the Minis aren't exactly reasonable money anymore.  The Saigas shoot as well or better and have the reliability and ammo tollerance of the AK rifle family.  American commercial sporting ammo or third world go-bang ammo, no problem.  Load 'er up and shoot.

  I have to give a tip of the hat to the Ruskies for this new generation of AK.  They know that they have to sell guns commercially to stay afloat, and they know that worldwide the laws and attitudes are tightening against military style rifles.  Rather than just offering the AK with minimum compliance for the so-called "assault weapon" bans, they made a completely revamped design that in built from the ground up to be a sporter rifle.  Good thinking, Comrades.

  I'd love to see it in 7.62x54r.  Why not?

Don't count on the 7.62x54r coming out soon.  I had hoped to find one of the 30-06 models they were going to make but from what I read they only made around 100 of them.  It's an excellent platform and the fact that a brand new reliable 223 or 7.62x39 can be bought for less than $400 really sounds good.  If I was a rancher and needed a truck gun, this would be it.

Let us know how the 7,62x51 shoots.  I find them very impressive.

I found a used saiga in 308 with the cam lock mount and scope but we haven't shot it yet to see how accurate the scope is.  The gun appears to be still in new condition.

Thats what i figured, the saiga in 223 with the 55gr soft point bullets would be an excellent yote rifle.  I figured the 62gr soft points would be for larger game.
Don't pass these up while there still being offered at affordable prices.  The accuracy will impress you i'm sure.
Once you shoot one i'm sure you will buy more in different calibers.

I would love to see the saiga's offered in;  7,62x54r,  8mm mauser, 7mm mauser and in 6,5mm swede too.  Since they already built the saiga 12ga there not too far away from building the magnum calibers too.  I would like to see them in 7mm remington mag,  300 winchester mag and in 338 winchester mag too.

Since the ruskies need cash i still find them very stubborn when it comes to suggestions.  I think they only filled a little nitch in the market right now when they could sew up the whole market with offering more calibers.  There just not listening to there customers the way they should.

I'm thinking of dragging extra rifles to my stand now.  I figure two saiga's in 223 and in 308 for starters.  I hope to go yote hunting soon with the saiga in 223.
