Cleaning my TC Reagade
« on: November 20, 2003, 06:40:21 AM »
Way back when my dad and I used patches and rb's we cleaned our rifles with a small bucket of hot water...ect....then put the barrel in the oven for 1/2 an hour.  Then we switched to a pre waxed maxi and only used powder solvent.  Now we are using sabots and still using only powder solvent.  When cleaning last night I noticed that the rifleing in the barrel was barely visible.  I am wondering if the wax or now the plastic is fouling up the twists.  I assume the plastic sabot will melt alittle when the powder burns but is it enough to build up in the barrel?
What should I used to get a real deep clean?  Is there a solvent that I can let soak in the barrel over night or something?

Ghost. If your sure its plastic fouling from the sabots. Get yourself some good solvent like Shooters Choice to help dissolve the plastic build up and a bronze or brass bore brush of the appropriate caliber. Run a patch saturated with the solvent then run the brush through it. Repeat a couple times if neccessary. then dry patch it till its clean. I use this method on my Encore after a couple sessions at the range and after hunting season. Can't hurt soap, water and bp solvent don't clean out plastic.
