222 Remington - 1 in 12" . . . . . .Thompson/Center Carbine and Rifle
222 Remington - 1 in 14" . . . . . .Browning; Remington 722, 725, 700, 600, 40
XB, 760, 788, 660; Savage 24-V, 340, 112,
2400; Sako; Winchester 70, 770; Wichita; Colt;
Husqvarna; Cooper
222 Remington - 1 in 16" . . . . . .J.C. Higgins 52, early Sako

The real test is to get a tight fitting patch on a rotating cleaning rod. Start the rod into the bore with the patch. Mark the rod where it starts and measure the distance the rod traveled for 1 revolution. If it measures 16" for 1 revolution of the cleaning rod, then it is a 1 - 16" twist. The standard for 222 Remington is 1-14", but as you can see, it can vary from one manufacturer to another.

There is no rule that says you can't shoot them, they might surprise you and if nothing else fill some milk jugs with water and watch them explode.

Make weights with the cost of bullets these days.....  :o
Remember it's where the first bullet goes out of a cold barrel that counts most.
