Can never decide which belt gun
« on: November 08, 2003, 12:49:47 PM »
My primary hunting gun is a Freedom Arms 83 in .44 mag.  This gun was made up as a Mag-na-port Stalker for me by Ken Kelly.  Across sandbags she will stay in 3" at 100 yds when I am having a good day.  My quest is always about the belt gun to carry with it.  Seems I always have to take my newest gun hunting with me, even if it wasn't designed for hunting.  I have carried another FA, several Rugers, Kimber .45, Charter .44, and now that I am in to cowboy guns, last year a nickeled Colt .44 spl.  Well this year I fell into a .45 colt EMF Hartford.  It was priced right as someone had done a home trigger job and had it out of time so I bought it for trading stock.  Anyway, I put in a new trigger, then made the mistake of shooting it before trading it off.  This gun is the best shooting .45 colt I have ever owned, and that includes several Rugers.  So I have to carry it this year.  Now I have a load with a 250 gr SWC at 900 fps that dead on the sights.  My buddys think I am nuts but I know she'll do the job on anything under 50 yds if I do my part.  Anyone else out there like me?

like you? hell I don,t know anything about you really.
but yeah, I do take my new guns hunting, and yeah I sometimes hunt with my 10mm glock and my 445 dan wesson, I use the 10mm for close in shots and the 445 supermag for shots over 50-60 yards
that 10mm shots a 200grain bullet at about 1200fps for about  639 ft lbs of energy
your 45 bullet of 250 grains at 900fps has about 450 ft lbs  but the bullet weight and caliber are larger so I doubt youll have trouble (KILLING) but I bet those deer run a short distance

go to John linebaughs web sight and see what the master of the big blasters has to say about 900 fps .45 colt loads. I have met him personaly and know for a fact he doesnt speek unless he knows! Personally Id rather shoot that load at a deer or blackbear then any load out of a 40 auto. Dont you worry a bit that load will KILL

I have the same problem! I can't decide which to carry sometimes, so what I do is try to carry one that is in a caliber I have never killed a deer with or a bullet type that I haven't used.
