For me, the answer is always buy the older S&W.  I am not a fan of nickel plating but the 27-2 is the standard by which all newer are judged.  I had a 27-2, blued, 6" with Patridge sights and really liked the way it handled and shot.  Since then, I have lost interest in the 357 Magnum cartridge (actually all magnums) and sold the revovler to someone who needed it.  The 27-2 is a fine piece and never a bad choice.

I have owned quite a few large frame Smith's, including a couple recent models.  I would pick the 27-7.  The pinned barrel, and counter-sunk chambers of the 27-2 really mean nothing as to performance and reliability.  My experience with the newer Smith's is that they seem to be more accurate and better machined then the 27 / 29 dash 2 guns.  Some don't like the MIM hammer and trigger used on the newer guns, but I note in the picture that the 27-7 gun in question is a PC gun, and uses the case hardened parts.  Also, the 27-7 should be covered with Smith's life time warranty.  Now if you are more into collecting classic S&W's, then the 27-2 would be the obvious choice.  They both are nice guns.

I agree with Strawhat. Normally I'd go with the older gun, but I just don't like nickel.

Guys

thanks it was a tough decision.  I ended up with the 27-2 which I found for alot less than the 27-2.

Pictures are attached.

I like the grips! (Actually, I like the whole gun, but especially the grips.) Congratulations.

I recently acquired a cherry 27-2 with a 5" barrel. Liked it so much, I had to have the 29-2 to go with it. Fit, finish and workmanship are simply out of this world!
