« on: January 27, 2010, 02:24:36 PM »
Hey all what primer are you using the Most in your 204's..     I have Rem 7 1/2, WSR, and Federal 205  (Not 205M.)  I use the 71/2's  and WSR in alot of My other rifle loads.   Thought about tring the 205's to save the others ..   Has anyone else Used them  Or have any thoughts????

don't got one, but for what it's worth, the lyman book uses rem 7 1/2, Nosler shows Fed 205M.

My go to primer for accuracy with small rifle primers is the 7 1/2. I have found that the BR4`s, 205`s, and even the CCI benchrest primers work better in some guns in some loads. But unless your going for competive benchrest accuracy working up a load for each of them really isn`t worth the trouble and unless your useing a bench gun the difference between any of them will probly be hard to measure.

Can't say.  Depends on the load and the powder being used.  I was working up loads for two different 7TCUs.  One in a 14" Contender and one in a 15" XP-100.  I found sweet spots and good accuracy with loads for each.  Just under 1.0" @ 100.  I loaded up same loads for each, but tried Rem 7 1/2, WSR, and Fed 205M in each.  The XP liked the WSR with the H-335 and the Contender liked the Rem 7 1/2 with the WW748.  Both now shoot .5-.75" groups.  Go figure.

All the data i have seen recommends 7 1/2 primers. That is what i bought for mine. Haven't loaded any yet. I think i am going to have one hell of a time beating the group size i am getting with factory ammo. Shoots 3/8 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Off the bench of coarse.

Well a few months latter. I finally got to go shoot the 26" Encore 204 Ruger.    I found a Sweet spot with the 39gr Blitzkings. 205fed primer and RL-10!     .250" 5 shot groups @ 100 yards.   and a few groups were under .250".  not bad for a factory rifle with a stock trigger. The only thing I did was sand the forend to float it. I also added rubber washer between it and the barrel.    I love this little round. NO recoil, Muzzle blast, and noise is not bad at all.   I tried some of the Barnes 26gr Varmint Grenades over Varget and BL-C(2) with no Luck.  1.5" and 2" groups. Couldn't get the 32gr v-max to group with Varget either.  Well all and all I learned alot yesterday.  What FUN ;D

The federal STD. 205 primers worked fine!   ;)
