handgun hunting stickers
« on: November 05, 2003, 03:25:16 AM »
does anyone make handgun hunting sticklers like they make for fishing, bow hunting  or Calvin peeing on Chevy/ford/ anti-huntiners.
I would like to get one for my truck but have yet to find any. I have a friend that makes racing stickers and if i can come up with a design he can make me some.

I you have any ideas  let me know

rickyp:  honestly buddy I would avoid something like that.  That is almost like advertising that you either have one in the truck or there is something in the truck related to handguns/handgun hunting that might attract the wrong kind of interest.  It is almost like hanging your shotgun in the back window of your pickemuptruck and not expecting someone to bust a window to get a free shotgun.

Also, and I say this about my locale not knowing much about what it might be like for you in Md,but something like that would gain so much police interest they might never leave you alone.  Again, that would be the wrong type of advertising to the wrong crowd.  It's almost like that bumper sticker that says - Driver only carries $20 worth of ammo.  I just wouldn't want anyone else to know what my interests or business is, especially crooks and, others.  Just my 2 cents.  Mikey.

I disagree, I have all kinds of hunting and gun stickers on all my trucks. Most of the time other hunter and shooters will come up and talk to me about hunting or shooting. I have had stickers on my trucks for more years than I can remember and never had a cop give me a hard time, most will ask me about hunting. Also I have a CCW and the cops tell me that most people that have hunting and NRA sticker are not the people they are concerned with. It is the other people that don't want you to know what they have. If a person is looking for someone to rob or due harm to you and see you are either a hunter or shooter, you would be a bad target, they would go to an easier target. So in my opinion do what makes you happy. I get a lot of my stickers from gun shows, Shotgun News and Natchez Shooters Supplies. Also you can get some from your local gun shop.

I have to agree with redhawk,
MD is very anti gun but 99% of the police are not. I was stopped for speeding  heading out in the woods to hunt some foxes. As the officer walked up I calmly told him that i have a handgun in a case in the back seat and asked if he wanted tro see it. The officer took a step back put his hand on his gun then a second latter removed it and told me that it was not neccery.  we started talking about  hunting. HE told me flat out that he is not worried about people that tell him there is a gun in the car. he feels that we are not going to do anything stupid if we already told him about it.

I am proud to be a hunter and use my handguns to do so.  I feel it is good to get out the message that handguns have a sporting use and are not just for killing people. The More we show that the handguns have other uses the better we are.

Good question. I don't recall seeing any. I've seen patches, but no decals.  Doesn't mean they're not out there.  Let us know if  you find some.

Not too concerned about the theft potential, but rather the bubba effect of all those stickers showing a child peeing. You mean they're not secret-labels for a Pedophile club!??!

To me, putting a $2 sticker of a little kid (even if it is a cartoon) urinating , onto the window of a $30,000 vehicle    and then driving it around in public, screams 'pinhead' or worse! JMHO.

I never could understand the folks with profanity on bumper stickers in public either. Did they ever have to explain the stickers to their small children while sitting behind some buffoon at a traffic light?    Do they drive those vehicles to church? :(

And they are probably the same people who blame the decay of our USA society on "someone else".

Well thats my 'public forum' opinion...  thought you'd like to know.

rickyp, I understand 100% where you are coming from. I have Ruger, S&W stickers on my trucks. I have a Deer Head with Bowhunter written above it. I am a proud Hunter and Gun owner. I do not care what others think. If someone wants to break in my truck or house because I have stickers on my truck, I say come and get um... The guys here that say it is bad and you will attract bad people, I think they live in a sheltered environment or are just plain over reactors. But back to the stickers. Sometimes I pick up a couple of the white outline letters and deer heads and make my own sayings and stuff. I found more stuff at my local bow shop than anywhere else. Just enjoy it and have fun with it. :)

although i do not put a lot of stickers on my truck, i see no harm or increased danger because of such a sticker. i agree that if all hand gun hunters would put such a sticker on their vehicle it might help wake the public and law makers up to the fact that  handguns mean more then what you see on the news.
in about 34 hrs. i will setting in my stand with the tc and gandson.
be safe and god bless

rickyp:  I can understand and accept the opinions of others but still feel uncomfortable about advertising my hunting or handgun hunting preferences in any way.  From your description of the Police attitude in your locale it sounds like you and some of the other posters have been more fortunate than I with the way your local Police view hunting and handguns or handgun hunting in particular.  I sincerely hope that has not jaded your views in any way and really hope that for as long as you can enjoy this sport you never experience any of the more adversarial, um, approaches we (I) have to deal with here.

Here, lots of folks suffer theft from car/truck break-ins by creeps looking to steal free guns (free for them that is), significant public disdain by anti-hunters including vandalism in the form of damage to vehicles, ripped off NRA stickers, fluids thrown on the car, crap thrown on your windshield and even tacky notes left in your broken windshield wipers.  And, that's not to mention the local cops who are more than willing to literally drag you from the car at gunpoint, cuff your butt, tear through your car, and leave you cuffed in the back seat of a foul smelling patrol vehicle while they check you out.  Then, even when they find you to be legitimate there is absolutely no apology for the inconvenience or insult.  And these are the same pukes who will hunt your posted lands and abuse their police authority to avoid diffiuclty or prosecution.  I don't wish that on anyone, regardless of where they are.

I feel that my personal possession of whatever I want to own is nobody else's damned business, and in this neck of the 'still klintonized state', advertising your preferences is considered a liability.  JM2C.  Mikey.

Mikey sorry to here about your bad run-ins. It happens everywhere. A Sh*thead is going to be a Sh*thead no matter if you have stickers or not. I have not had any problems with the police at all and when I am stopped I hand them my license and CCW and tell them right away I have a gun in the car, and there is not a problem at all. Now I have had the Anti-Hunters let the air out of my tires but no other damage. But in the past 6 years nothing has happened at all. I hunt on my land and park on the main road. When I hunt State land I go back far enough that only other hunters come and go. I also sometimes can see my truck from am stand with binoculars. To tell you the truth I had my trucks broken in more when I did not have the stickers on. But it is not saying that the stickers deterred them, but most of the people in my neighborhood know I don't play around, if you intend to do anything wrong to me or my belongs I will catch you. The kids in the neighborhood call me the Beast. LOL I like it, everyone else gets egged and messed with but they leave me alone. Kind of like Bert in trimmers. LOL...

Mikey,
If the police are stopping you pulling youmout of the car and handcuffing you then searching your car. they are in viloation of your rights they can not  search your car with out porbable cause. a sticker does not count. if they do that to you ask them calmly what is there cause to be doing this and it it doesnt addd up then start filing a complaint and bring law suites agenst them. THe supream court has stated taht the police does have the right to handcuff you as they need to. But just because you can doesnt mean you should or it is approate. so we all should not stand for it and stand up for our rights

Mikey,
Where do you live?  Gotta tell you, even  here in the Shadow of DC, if you got caught fiddling with an NRA sticker once, you wouldn't do it twice!  Really sad, sorry to hear that things are so bad there.

As much as I like handguns, I have a potental problem without advertising the fact.

I have handicap tags on both of my vehicles, due to my wife's condition.  These are nothing but an advertisement that there are people in the vehicle that cannot run away very fast, and could be thought of as an easy target. Therefore, there is a Condition 1 Colt Government Model within easy reach when I'm in the car with my wife.
Never had a problem here with the local law enforcement, the State troopers, or law enforcement in neighboring states, either.

This is off topic but, has anyone seen the NRA window stickers. They are on several pickups in central Illinois. The NRA stands for National Redneck Ass. not The National Rifle Ass. Seems like the real NRA could do some legal action on this one. And as far as thinking the stickers would cause the wrong ideas or get unwanted attention, what are we going to do, hide love of our sport or hobbies? Seems like that's what the real NRA has been doing for some time now! Seems to me that, you end a bad situation by putting it out in the open, not hiding it. As long as your note breaking the law, the local police will soon know, your not the bad guy that Sara Brady wants them to think you are.

Handgun Decals
« Reply #19 on: November 23, 2003, 06:40:26 PM »
rickyp, I'm attempting to create one (or modify one). I've going to modify one that is a rifleman walking with Elk horns on his pack. I'm going to attempt to modify the rifle to a pistol. If it works I'll post it here.

Meanwhile, if you come up with something else let us know.

P.S. I proudly display my hunting/handgun decals. I don't coward for no one!

I truly don't believe you will get harrassed by the police or be more or less of a target by a criminal. CarolCann probably made the most estute observation. I will answer her question about how to tell your kids what that sticker means. I would say,"That sticker means the driver is an idiot." Is there nothing you would like to adorn your vehicle more than a cartoon peepeeing? Displaying an NRA logo or endorsing your manufacturer of choice is admirable, it even looks good on a vehicle. True, the "peeing" is a joke, its just not funny. I would hate for people to think that gun owners have no sense of humor. Here's a joke to laugh at: "Where does a king keep his armies......up his sleevies!"
"Too many freaks, not enough circuses."
