deep scratches inside barrel

I have a 20 gauge ribbed barrel that I just received, that looks to have very deep scratches inside the bore starting at the end of the shell area and running straight out almost to the end of barrel. It almost looks like someone had a file inside there trying to remove something. Anyone ever seen anything like this and have an idea what caused it?

thats what I was thinking, a gunsmith showed me a barrel one time that he was working on for a guy, who more or less should be a pro duck hunter, puts thousands of rounds through his duck guns, and it was pretty well gouged up. He said its typical of steel shot. Thats just what he told me, so take it for what it is.

Maybe someone used a cleaning round to push out a stuck shell?

Steel shot , had one do it back before they had good shot cups to protect the bbl.
