ruger P85, any feedback?
« on: August 18, 2010, 03:25:28 AM »
I just bought a Ruger P85.  I have to say it is a good example of a 'bug' gun.  Big, Ugly, Gun.  ha ha.  At least Ruger has the reputation of being tough and reliable.  I bought this for a 'truck gun', being a Hi-cap 9mm, I think it will be good for that.  At just $200 with 3 mags, I don't have to worry about it being hurt bouncing around in the truck.  Certainly not the place I'd want to put my engraved Colt 1911!  The trigger feels quite nice for a double/single action gun.  Anyone have any feedback about how theirs has done?  Any info would be appreciated.  My gunsmith friend Marshall, says I can run +P or even +P+ all I want to in it.  Thanks for replys.  44 Man

I've had one for many years. Feeds everything I've tried. Accuracy is decent. I think you'll be happy with it, especially for a truck gun.

They did have a recall on them a few years ago. If it has three mags I bet it's been done already as that is what they gave you for the inconvenience. If I remember right there should be some kind of sticker in the mag well.

The firing pin would break and somehow when you pressed the disconnect lever the gun would fire when the hammer dropped.

I have a P89 which is not much different than the P85 and I love it.  I have tried just about every kind of ammo I could find in it from cast lead hand loads to +P+ JHP and it shoots them all without a hitch.  Before I got this pistol I never owned a semi auto that was so reliable with any kind of ammo but this is it.
