Alaska F&G was set up
« on: March 24, 2010, 08:17:30 PM »
I attended a meeting today that blew me away when I found out what was going on.  The Feds are out of control here in Alaska.

Some of you may have seen the article on the news about how the Alaska Dept Of Fish and Game killed a wolf pack that lived in a Federal Refuge.  A pack that was radio collared and protected.  They showed the Helicopter used in the killing.  It also told how the radio frequencies were given to F&G so they would not kill members of this pack.  The Federal Manager of the Yukon Charley refuge is appalled that the state would go on and do something like this, after all the communication between the Feds and the State.

A week before the hunt was to take place the manager of the Refuge released a statement that he was against the Predator Control program the state was implementing.  He felt the state did not have the right to shoot any of the wolves that might stray outside the refuge.  He wanted the people visiting the refuge seeing and hearing wolves.

What they are not saying is that the refuse manager set this up to make the state look bad.  The federal biologist uses seven radio frequencies, yet they only gave the state biologist six of them.  The Feds left out the radio frequency for the pack that roamed in and out of the refuge to the east side.  So when the state biologist found a pack outside the refuge, and there was no radio signal coming from members of the pack they did what they were supposed to do, they shot and killed the wolves.  When the radio signals monitored by the Feds showed the wolf wearing the coller was dead the Feds called the news media.  Then they blew it all out of preportion.  Now the Federal manager is trying to use this incident to stop all trapping of wolves in the refuge.  The people of Eagle have been trapping wolves in this area since before the Gold Rush.  Long before the refuge was created by that Peanut Farmer Carter.  There is plenty of wolves left in the area, no need to stop trapping hunting or to do anything, just because seven wolves were killed.

The feds are pretty mush out of control everywhere.

I find it cruel to peanut farmers in general to link them with Ol' Jimmy. I know some peanut farmers and they are pretty nice people.  ;D ;D

SOURDOUGH. I read an article in Field N Stream about a man up there named Marty something. They were calling him a mountain man. Sounds like pretty rough living at times. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

The information in that link is not correct either.  We know we can not kill wolves in the parks, F&G never would have suggested that idea.  We did propose killing wolves near but outside the park, on state land.  That really upset the Park Service, they considered the Buffer Zone part of the park, and all animals in the buffer zone had their protection.  That buffer zone being both state and private land never fell under Park Service rules.   We did away with the buffer zone around the park, actually we let the sunset clause expire, and decided not to renew the buffer zone.  That buffer zone was put in place when we had an environmentalist governor, and the Park Service loved it.  It has wrecked havoc with the people living inside the buffer zone, with wolves getting into their livestock pens.  Now the buffer zone has gone away and the Feds are not happy.

It's open season on any wolf outside the park, as it should be.  There is so many wolves we will never be able to bring their numbers down any where to the point that they will be in danger of getting too low.  One thing history of the wildlife in Alaska has taught us.  If the wolf numbers are taken to a low number, the Moose, Caribou, and Sheep numbers will grow rapidly.  Once the ungulate numbers are up then wolf control is stopped.  At that point the wolf numbers explode.  If left unchecked the wolves will totally wipe out the ungulates in that area in a few years, then move on to another area.  So preditor control is an ongoing necessity.

Predator control Has always been ongoing necessity. When I was a kid and poor as a church mouse, we had chickens, for eggs and meat. when a hawk showed up, he was prom ply shot. Same for fox, coons, possums and any thing else that tried to kill our food source. I saw nothing wrong with it then, and I see nothing wrong with it now.

Beerbelly:  You are right, that is the way we look at it.  Unlike many people living in the lower 48 some areas of Alaska don't have grocery stores.  The people depend on wild game for the meat on their tables.  Therefore we need to keep the preditor numbers lower so we have a supply of game to feed the people.

Now Pricella Ferrell comes up here telling everyone we need to become Vegans, and quite eating meat.  That way we don't have to kill any of those poor wolves.

Sourdough now that the guvmnt will be conrolling your health care they may decide that eating meat is not healthy and "place an excise tax on eating it".  Not to mention sending IRS agents (revenuers) to inforce it. Heck eating crow may not even be allowed any more !
