Get a good hard case and check it at the airport.  If you look on the web the rules for checking guns are clearly stated.

That quality hard sided case may cost as much as the rifle did.  I think you will like your Model 30.  I have a Marlin model 30 that works well.

I wouldn't fly with it - as many airlines won't even let you check one as baggage.

I would remove the buttstock and pack/bubblewrap both pieces separately in a short box, then mail it to myself (insured) - all perfectly legal under Federal Law.

USPS also has delta-shaped/cross-section Priority Mail shipping tubes, 36" long, that the broken-down & wrapped rifle will fit into.  (Available FREE, @ many P.O.'s)

USPS Priority Mailed, to your home, should run about $25

That is how I got my rifle back home when I went to Colorado 4 years ago.

i flew home today. getting the gun thru the airport was a breeze. i don't fly much but us airways was helpful and real easy to get along with. i brought it to the checked baggage counter, unlocked the case and showed it to the us airways guy, locked it back up, he led me aroung to an x-ray machine, that was it, they took it from there. when we landed we were waiting at the carousel and another guy came out and handed me my rifle. easy. also the plano air glide case i bought for $40 worked great it comes with foam blocks and straps that held the rifle in place very well. i always get stressed out at the airport and am relieved when everything goes right.
also got the glenfield home and cleaned on it. i'm already liking it more. can't wait to shoot it. maybe this weakend. ;D

got to shoot the glenfield today. was getting under an inch groups at fifty yds with open sights, i'm happy :). best groups were with silver box 170 grn. winchester. blue box 170 grn. fed also shot well. rem 170 and 150 not so good. i probably could do better with a scope, but i'm not putting a scope on this one.
also shot a model 1894 30wcf made in 1899 that i bought about four years ago. managed 1 1/2 inch groups at fifty yds. with some pretty crude sights. used rem 150 grn. didn't try any others in it. sure is fun to shoot a piece of history like that.
here's a pic of the glenfield and the winchester.
