savage 93r17 misfire
« on: March 21, 2010, 08:01:30 AM »
we finally got out to the range yesterday with the new savage 17. First round in the chamber goes click. Second fires, we were using xtp 20 gr bullets. out of the 15 rounds we tried to put through this gun only 5 went off, then it would not shoot anymore. It seemed like it was hitting the same on all the rounds. Put the rounds that did not shoot into another savage and it fired them fine. We deciede to take a trip back to dicks sporting goods to see what they could do for it since we just bought it 2 weeks ago. They sent it back to savage for repair. Has any one ever had this problem before, how long can i expect my rifle to be gone?

first I have heard about having trouble with the 93r17, they usually are trouble free. I have two 93s a 17HMR and a 22Mag, both work great, hope it is a simple and a quick fix.... Larry

no, it'll work out. laminated stocks are the most appealing to me.

we went and shot my freinds last night first time he had it out had missfires with win and cci 17gr. he is going to give it a good cleaning tonight to see if that helps. will let you know if that works but guess it will be too late since you sent it in. Hope savage treats you well.

I've put at least 1000 rounds through my without a glitch and without cleaning the bolt -after the 1st time.  I did spray some Powder Blaster through the bolt when I 1st got it home to remove the packing grease.  Savage is good stuff, you'll love it.
