Simple Ruger Blackhawk question
« on: March 25, 2010, 06:10:28 PM »

Dear Guys,

I don't know much about hand guns, so sorry to ask such a basic question.

I see from the ads for Ruger Blackhawks, that some shoot the .30 carbine round, and some shoot the 9mm round.  But, these are rimless.  So, are they using half-moon clips or what?

Thanks,

Mannyrock

The cylinders are bored such that the cartridge headspaces on the case mouth.  Just like an auto cartridges, handloaders don't want to roll crimp.  Moon clips wouldn't work with the Blackhawks and other single actions 'cuz the cylinder doesn't swing out like a double action.

Yup, they headspace just like an auto pistol, no worries.
The local gun shop here has a Bisley Blackhawk in stainless chambered for .45 lC with the extra .45 acp cylinder...very tempting.
