Need a measurement please.
« on: March 28, 2010, 02:30:14 PM »
I was at a Cabelas this weekend & got a chance to compare the standard 12 gauge handi to a Ultra 12 gauge.  The Ultra barrel was clearly a larger OD at the breach than the standard but I did not have my dail calipers in my pocket to take a measurement  ;D.  Can someone with a Ultra 12 gauge measure the OD over the chamber please.

An SB2 shotgun frame, not to be confused with an SB2 rifle frame.  ;)

The opening for the chamber swell is larger on the SB2 shotgun frame, a standard barrel can be fitted to it, but the underlug must be bedded to fit good.

I couldn't think of his name, but it finally came to me, peternap bedded a 30-06 barrel in an SB2 shotgun frame.

Tom what I am getting at is that I turned a length of steel to a OD of 1.200 & it fit into a SB2 rifle frame perfectly with no gaps anywhere. No side play because there was not a gap on the sides. Thats why I want to use a 12g ultra barrel as a stub for a project.  The better fit of the ultra barrel stub has to inhance the accuracy of any stub conversion

Guess, I didn't answer the question asked!!  :-[ No, the chamber swell is too big.

No better than a 1.1XX" barrel in an SB2 rifle frame, and there's no worry about the firing pin size or the USH barrel being 1137 instead of 4140. Whether that's an issue with a high pressure chambering I don't know for sure, but I know a rifle donor barrel stub works fine on the 6.5x55 at 60kspi.  ;)
