Is Marlin moving/closing ??
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:13:09 PM »
On another forum I check on, persons state that marlin is closing its doors, that the workers have been informed etc over the next year. Another posted that it was temporary and would reopen later in another state, "south", possibly NC.This was supposed to come from someone inside Remington. What have you heard about this? Hype? Merely exaggerated ? Factual?? I would guess Handi's would have to be involved somehow.

H&R already moved (as far as i know) marlin is closing over the next 18 months and reopening in another state (thats what seems to be the consensus on a bunch of boards)
common sense is slowly becoming uncommon

Marlin is closing the New Haven plant and moving production elsewhere, Marlin isn't out of business, just relocating.

The only effect it would have on Handis is Marlin makes H&R's barrels, but that's not a problem since H&R will be making their own barrels in Ilion NY later this year before New Haven closes. It will eventually affect Pardner Pump and Auto Exell support tho, that's done in New Haven, not Ilion.

Marlin Firearms to close next year

(AP) – 7 hours ago

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — Marlin Firearms Co., a 140-year-old company which made a gun that was a favorite of Annie Oakley, is closing its Connecticut plant, company officials said Friday.

Workers at the plant in North Haven say they've been told all 265 employees will lose their jobs.

Jessica Kallam, a spokeswoman with Madison, N.C.'s Remington Arms Co. Inc., which owns Marlin, said the Connecticut plant will close by June 2011 and employees would be offered severance and help finding jobs. She said Marlin is relocating its manufacturing operations to an undetermined site.

Kallam could not confirm if all employees in Connecticut are losing their jobs.

She read a company statement that says Freedom Group, which owns Remington, must reduce its costs to remain competitive.

"Although long term prospects of the business look positive, economic factors beyond Freedom Group's control related to increasing costs and pricing pressures within the firearms industry are impacting the entire Freedom Group of companies," the statement said.

Remington Arms bought Marlin for nearly $42 million in 2007.

Marlin's Web site says John Marlin opened the company in 1870 in New Haven after having worked at the Colt plant in Hartford during the Civil War. The company says its lever action 22 repeater was a favorite gun of Annie Oakley.

That's what I'm hearing, Quick.  It's a move, not a closing, although the folks at the New Haven plant won't be able to tell the difference unless they're willing to move.  (Of course, I'm sure you read the same gun boards I read.)

This is a natural and normal part of the gun business.  Although we seem to be overcome lately with news of gun manufacturers moving, closing, consolidating, it's been part of the gun business for years.  There are a lot of folks who don't remember when Ruger made the move to Prescott, AZ.  Businesses move for a variety of reasons, usually based on the bottom line of the balance sheet.  It's a business, after all, and business isn't about tradition.

Marlin gone? Hope it does not affect H&R!

I was reading the Michael Bane blog yesterday and he got it from a factory employee of Marlin that they told them they will close the door next year.  Sad news.  Guess most of the purchasing lately has been Black Rifles and bolt guns.  Hope this does not affect our sweety Handi's.  I am interested in a 20" Marlin in their Marlin 308 cartridge.  I'll have to get that done before the prices go crazy like they did with Winchester.  44 Man
