I made a beer can mortar.
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:19:44 AM »

Hi.
I made a beer can mortar.
Beer can weight is 35 ounces or 1 kg of cement.
mortar has an outside diameter of 128mm and I turned it to 66.8mm inside. about 1mm of clearance.
gunpowder chamber has a diameter of 40mm and contains max 1.7 ounces powder.
Tried with a very coarse powder. and beer can went about 100m with an elevation of 55 degrees on the mortar.
This was fun. ;D

Oyvind -

There is indeed something thrilling about firing off a beer-can mortar!

I fired my first one on April 19, 1975 in celebration of Patriot's day.
